''The Telephone Operator'' (german: Das Fräulein vom Amt) is a 1925 German silent comedy film directed by Hanns Schwarz and starring André Mattoni, Alexander Murski, and Willy Kaiser-Heyl. The film's art direction was by Erich Czerwonski. It was notable for the number of leading UFA technicians who worked on it. It premiered on 15 October 1925 at the Tauenzienpalast in Berlin. It is also known by the alternative title ''Liebe und Telefon''. Hanns Schwarz
Hanns Schwarz (11 February 1888 – 27 October 1945) was an Austrian Empire, Austrian film director. He was born in Vienna on 11 February 1888. Biography He directed twenty four films between 1924 and 1937 in both English-language, English and German-language, German. During the late silent film, silent and early sound era, sound eras, he was a leading director at the large German studio Universum Film AG, UFA. In the early 1930s he worked on several Multiple-language version, multi-language version films for UFA, producing the same films in distinct German and foreign-language versions. Schwarz was Jewish and was therefore forced to leave Germany in 1933 when the Nazis took over, going into exile in Britain. His last film was the 1937 British thriller ''Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel''. He died in California on 27 October 1945. Mary Johnson (actress)
Mary Johnson (born Astrid Maria Carlsson; 11 May 1896 – 15 May 1975) was a Swedish film actress of the silent era. Biography Astrid Maria Carlsson was born in Fors parish, Södermanland, Sweden. She debuted in the 1910s in the theater company of director Karin Swanström (1873–1942). In 1914, together with her first husband Karl Gerhard Johnson (1891–1964), she went to the Nya Teatern in Gothenburg acting under the direction of theatre manager Hjalmar Selander (1859–1928). During the 1920s, she moved to Berlin and appeared as a leading lady in a number of German films. In 1932, she married German film actor, Rudolf Klein-Rogge (1885–1955). She died at Brännkyrka and was buried in the memorial grove of Skogskyrkogården in Stockholm. Hugo Döblin (29 October 1876 – 4 November 1960) was a German stage and film actor.Hardt p.233 He appeared in more than eighty films, most of them during the silent era. The Jewish Döblin left Germany following the Nazi Party's rise to power in 1933, and after moving first to Czechoslovakia and Austria, eventually settled in Switzerland.
