The Tango Lesson
''The Tango Lesson'' ( es, La lección de tango) is a 1997 drama film written and directed by Sally Potter. It is a semi-autobiographical film starring Potter and Pablo Verón, about Argentinian Tango. The film, a co-production of Argentina, France, Germany, Netherlands and the United Kingdom, was produced by Christopher Sheppard in Britain and Oscar Kramer in Argentina, and was shot mostly in black and white in Paris and Buenos Aires. The soundtrack includes original recordings of Carlos Gardel's '' Mi Buenos Aires querido'' and Ástor Piazzolla's ''Libertango'', two of the most iconic tangos in the history of the genre. It also includes an original song written and sung by Potter. Synopsis Sally, a filmmaker and screenwriter suffering from writer's block, is dissatisfied with her film project, a murder mystery called '' Rage'', which features the fashion industry. ''Libertango'' is a composition by tango composer and bandoneon player Astor Piazzolla, recorded and published in 1974 in Milan. The title is a portmanteau merging " Libertad" (Spanish for "liberty") and "tango", symbolizing Piazzolla's break from classical tango to tango nuevo. Matthew Hawkins (born 30 March 1983) is a South African born, former American rugby union player and former coach of the United States sevens team. Playing career Hawkins played loose forward for the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club when he first arrived in the U.S., and helped the team win the 2006 national Super League title. In 2007 Hawkins was selected to the United States national rugby sevens team pool. He made his first appearance for the USA Eagles at the 2008 New Zealand and USA stops of the World Rugby Sevens Series. Hawkins' achievements on the Sevens circuit include the team making the cup semi-finals in the 2009 USA Sevens and reaching the final of the 2010 Adelaide Sevens.
