''The Suspect'' ( it, Il sospetto) is a 1975 Italian thriller-drama film directed by Francesco Maselli. Plot Fascism has forced the leadership of the Italian Communist Party to settle in Paris. In Italy arrests of militants are decimating the organization, so Emilio is sent on a mission in the area of Turin, to put out of harm whistleblowers. Francesco Maselli
Francesco Maselli or Citto Maselli (born 9 December 1930, in Rome) is an Italian film director and screenwriter. He has directed 38 films since 1949. Biography Maselli graduated at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, National Film School in 1949 and began his career as assistant director for Luigi Chiarini, Michelangelo Antonioni and Luchino Visconti. Thanks to Visconti, Maselli manages to direct his first feature film, ''Abandoned (1955 film), Abandoned'', showed in competition at the 16th Venice International Film Festival, 16th Venice Film Festival. Gabriele Lavia (born 10 October 1942) is an Italian actor, film director and theatre director. Biography Lavia was born in Milan, Lombardy. Since 1970 he has had roles in nearly thirty films and television programs. He is known for his appearances in several horror films, including '' Beyond the Door'' (1974), Dario Argento's ''Deep Red'' (1975), ''Inferno'' (1980), and '' Sleepless'' (2001), and Pupi Avati's '' Zeder'' (1983). OVRA
The OVRA, whose most probable name was Organization for Vigilance and Repression of Anti-Fascism ( it, Organizzazione per la Vigilanza e la Repressione dell'Antifascismo), was the secret police of the Kingdom of Italy, founded in 1927 under the regime of Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini and during the reign of King Victor Emmanuel III. The OVRA was the Italian precursor of the German Gestapo. Mussolini's secret police were assigned to stop any anti-fascist activity or sentiment. Approximately 50,000 OVRA agents infiltrated most aspects of domestic life in Italy. The OVRA, headed by Arturo Bocchini, never appeared in any official document, so the official name of the organization still remains unclear.
