The Summit is a rural town and locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of The Summit had a population of 409 people. The locality borders New South Wales. Geography The Summit is predominantly farmland with some urban development surrounding the railway station. The New England Highway passes north-south through the town, running close to and parallel with the Southern railway line. Originally the highway was the main street of the town, but now the highway bypasses the town to the east. Cannon Creek forms the south-western border of the locality. History The town takes its name from The Summit railway station, which was so named because it was the highest point () on the Southern railway line from Warwick to Wallangarra. David John Garland
David John Garland (1864–1939) was an Anglican clergyman and a military chaplain in Queensland, Australia. As senior army camp chaplain in Queensland from 1914 to 1917, Garland experienced the World War I both at home and at the front. He was one of the originators of the now annual Anzac Day ceremonies. Described as "overpoweringly energetic with a distinctive flair, if not genius, for organisation", he played a pivotal role in the Queensland experience of the war, and was a central figure in a variety of committees and organisations established to aid the war effort and support or commemorate serving or returned soldiers. Wallangarra is a rural town and locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia on the border with New South Wales. In the , the locality of Wallangarra had a population of 468 people. It is the third-most southerly town in Queensland, south west of Brisbane. Wallangarra is on the Queensland side of the border and Jennings is on the New South Wales side. Geography Wallangarra lies in a valley between two ranges of mountains, which are branches of the Great Dividing Range. It is 878 m above sea level.
