Stowaway
A stowaway or clandestine traveller is a person who secretly boards a vehicle, such as a ship, an aircraft, a train, cargo truck or bus. Sometimes, the purpose is to get from one place to another without paying for transportation. In other cases, the goal is to enter another country without first obtaining a travel visa or other permission. Stowaways differ from people smuggling in that the stowaway needs to avoid detection by the truck driver, ship crew, and others responsible for the safe and secure operation of the transportation service. Thousands of stowaways have travelled by sea or land over the last several centuries. A much smaller number of people have attempted to stowaway on aircraft. Many stowaways have died during the attempt, especially in cases of train surfing and wheel-well stowaway flights. Origin The word takes its origin with the expression ''stow away''. ''Monsters Inside Me'' was an American television documentary series about infectious diseases. It included first-person interviews with people and medical professionals telling their personal stories about contracting rare diseases with most of them being parasites. Interviews with contributors were shot on location across North America. Recreations were mostly filmed near hospitals and homes in New York City. Summary Each episode has dramatizations that show illnesses caused by an infectious disease or medical affliction. Once the agent has been identified, their life cycles and general behaviors are illustrated. Justin Peed is the narrator, and biologist Dan Riskin explains how and why each infectious agent works inside its host. The Callistan Menace
"The Callistan Menace" is a science fiction short story by American writer Isaac Asimov. It first appeared in the April 1940 issue of ''Astonishing Stories'' and was reprinted in the 1972 collection ''The Early Asimov''. It was the second science fiction story written by Asimov, and the oldest story of his still in existence. Writing and publication Asimov came up with the idea for the story, which he called "Stowaway", after his first meeting with John W. Campbell on June 21, 1938. His first story, "Cosmic Corkscrew", was rejected by Campbell on 23 June. In his autobiography, ''I, Asimov: A Memoir'', the author recalled that Campbell sent him a rejection letter that was so kind and it prompted him to write another story called "Stowaway" ("The Callistan Menace").
