The Stone (Babble Album)
''The Stone'' is the debut studio album by Babble, an electronic dance music group that was composed of Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie (formerly of the Thompson Twins), and Keith Fernley. The group changed its name as it changed the outward appearance of its sound, from pop to dub-influenced chill-out. The underlying melodies and the familiar voices of Bailey and Currie still gave a Thompson Twins tone. However, the addition of Quest vocalist Amey St. Cyr (" Take Me Away" and "Tribe"), emcee Q-Tee ("Beautiful"), deep basslines, and loads of spacious effects made it a much more relevant album for the lounge music scene. Promotion of the album was minimal. However, during an interview in Classic Pop magazine in 2014, Bailey stated the album was influential in the recording of ''Original Soundtracks 1'', an album released in 1995 by U2 and Brian Eno under the pseudonym Passengers. Babble (band)
Babble was a British-New Zealand electronic dance music group active in the 1990s. It was formed by Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie, formerly of the Thompson Twins), with Keith Fernley. History Babble was established in 1992 when Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie decided to drop the Thompson Twins name and begin recording new music under the name Babble. The decision to adopt a new name stemmed from the duo's aspirations of exploring different musical ideas and recording more experimental music. During the spring of 1992, the duo approached their long-time engineer Keith Fernley and he joined Babble as a full time member. The trio then spent five weeks in India to collect sound and sample recordings for future recording use. Thompson Twins
Thompson Twins were a British Pop music, pop band formed in 1977 in Sheffield. Initially a New wave music, new wave group, they switched to a more mainstream pop sound and achieved considerable popularity during the mid-1980s, scoring a string of hits in the United Kingdom, the United States, and around the world. In 1993, they changed their name to Babble (band), Babble, to reflect their change in music from pop to Dub music, dub-influenced Chill-out music, chill-out. "Take Me Away" is a song from British-New Zealand electronic dance music group Babble, which was released in 1994 as the lead single from their debut studio album '' The Stone''. The song was written and produced by Alannah Currie and Tom Bailey. It reached number 18 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Music Club Play chart. Background "Take Me Away" originated with Currie, who had the idea for the song when she and Bailey were part of the audience at Glastonbury Festival. Bailey told ''Hits'' in 1994, "Alannah actually wrote the song at Glastonbury. We were there in a massive crowd of people and she wrote it gazing over a hill looking at the crowd." Q-Tee (born Tatiana Mais, 1976 in Kidbrooke, London) is a British rapper. She provided rapping vocals on two songs by Saint Etienne; the first of these being "Filthy" ( B-side to "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" and also released on '' Smash The System: Singles and More'') and the second being "Calico" (on ''So Tough''). At the time she recorded these songs she was 15 years old. In 1990, she was the featured vocalist on History's UK No. 42 hit, "Afrika". In 1993, Q-Tee provided rapping vocals on "Beautiful" by Babble, who were essentially the last two remaining members of Thompson Twins. It was released on their album, '' The Stone'' (Warner Bros./Reprise Records), and remixes were also released on the double A-side single, "Beautiful"/"Tribe". Lounge music is a type of easy listening music popular in the 1950s and 1960s. It may be meant to evoke in the listeners the feeling of being in a place, usually with a tranquil theme, such as a jungle, an island paradise or outer space. ''Original Soundtracks 1'' is a studio album recorded by rock band U2 and Brian Eno under the pseudonym Passengers as a side project. Released on 6 November 1995, the album is a collection of songs written for mostly imaginary films (the exceptions being songs for ''Ghost in the Shell'', ''Miss Sarajevo'', and '' Beyond the Clouds''). Owing to Eno's involvement as a full songwriting partner and the album's experimental nature, the moniker "Passengers" was chosen to distinguish it from U2's conventional albums.
