Q-Tee
Q-Tee (born Tatiana Mais, 1976 in Kidbrooke, London) is a British rapper. She provided rapping vocals on two songs by Saint Etienne; the first of these being "Filthy" ( B-side to "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" and also released on '' Smash The System: Singles and More'') and the second being "Calico" (on ''So Tough''). At the time she recorded these songs she was 15 years old. In 1990, she was the featured vocalist on History's UK No. 42 hit, "Afrika". In 1993, Q-Tee provided rapping vocals on "Beautiful" by Babble, who were essentially the last two remaining members of Thompson Twins. It was released on their album, '' The Stone'' (Warner Bros./Reprise Records), and remixes were also released on the double A-side single, "Beautiful"/"Tribe". She was signed to a recording contract to Saint Etienne's label, Heavenly Records in her own right four years later, and released one song, "Gimme That Body" in January 1996. Heavenly Recordings is a London-based independent record label founded by Jeff Barrett in 1990. Heavenly released the first albums from Saint Etienne, Beth Orton and Doves, and early singles by Manic Street Preachers. Current Heavenly artists include Stealing Sheep, Mattiel, The Orielles, Confidence Man, audiobooks, Pip Blom, H. So Tough
''So Tough'' is the second studio album by British band Saint Etienne, released in 1993. It is their highest-charting album to date, reaching No. 7 on the UK Album Chart. ''So Tough'' is the first Saint Etienne album to feature Sarah Cracknell as an official member of the band. It was originally intended as a concept album which starts at "Mario's Cafe" in London then travels around the world, but it ultimately came to be viewed as a solely London album. Samples and references One of the distinctive features of the album is the use of samples between the songs. "Horny" is a song by British R&B musician Mark Morrison. It was released in December 1996 as the sixth single from his debut album, ''Return of the Mack''. The song features guest rap vocals by Q-Tee and peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart. The song also contains an uncredited sample of "Encore" by Cheryl Lynn. The Stone (Babble Album)
''The Stone'' is the debut studio album by Babble, an electronic dance music group that was composed of Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie (formerly of the Thompson Twins), and Keith Fernley. The group changed its name as it changed the outward appearance of its sound, from pop to dub-influenced chill-out. The underlying melodies and the familiar voices of Bailey and Currie still gave a Thompson Twins tone. However, the addition of Quest vocalist Amey St. Cyr (" Take Me Away" and "Tribe"), emcee Q-Tee ("Beautiful"), deep basslines, and loads of spacious effects made it a much more relevant album for the lounge music scene. Babble (band)
Babble was a British-New Zealand electronic dance music group active in the 1990s. It was formed by Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie, formerly of the Thompson Twins), with Keith Fernley. History Babble was established in 1992 when Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie decided to drop the Thompson Twins name and begin recording new music under the name Babble. The decision to adopt a new name stemmed from the duo's aspirations of exploring different musical ideas and recording more experimental music. During the spring of 1992, the duo approached their long-time engineer Keith Fernley and he joined Babble as a full time member. The trio then spent five weeks in India to collect sound and sample recordings for future recording use. Kidbrooke
Kidbrooke is an area of South East London, England, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich south-east of Charing Cross and north west of Eltham. The district takes its name from the Kyd Brook, a watercourse which runs from Orpington to Lewisham, by which point it is part of the River Quaggy. It is a tributary to the River Ravensbourne. Housing The area contains a large amount of 1920s and 1930s domestic housing, developed partly as the Kidbrooke Park Estate, between Shooters Hill and Rochester Way. A large RAF stores base, RAF Kidbrooke, formerly occupied much of the land around Kidbrooke railway station, north and south of the railway line. Mark Morrison (born 3 May 1972) is a British R&B singer. His single, "Return of the Mack", became a No. 1 or top 10 hit in several European countries in 1996. The song peaked at No. 2 in the United States the following year. Career Mark Morrison's first official recording was the 1993 vinyl release "Where Is Our Love", pressed on his own private Joe'Mel label.
