The Stolen Death
''The Stolen Death'' () is a 1938 Finnish thriller film directed by Nyrki Tapiovaara. The story is set in the Grand Duchy of Finland in 1904, and is about a group of Finnish activists in Helsinki who develop into a revolutionary force for Finnish independence. The film is based on the 1919 short story "The Meat-Grinder" by Runar Schildt. Unlike the original story, the film is not set during the 1918 Finnish Civil War because of its sensitive subject at the time, but the events were set during the Russo-Japanese War instead. The film was released on 4 September 1938. Nyrki Tapiovaara
Nyrki Tapiovaara, born 10 September 1911 in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki, died 29 February 1940, was a Finnish film director. He belonged to the Tulenkantajat group which promoted modernist ideas in Finnish culture. Tapiovaara's film career only lasted four years and resulted in five feature films, but had a lasting effect on Finnish cinema. He died in the Winter War. Jalmari Parikka
Hjalmar Fabian Parikka (16 October 1891 – 27 March 1959) was a Finnish revolutionary soldier, actor and artistic director. Life Jalmari Parikka was born in the Eastern Finnish town of Sortavala and went to school in the Russian capital Saint Petersburg. Parikka started his acting career in 1910 as a member of a touring theatre in Kajaani, where he had learned the profession of a typesetter. As the 1918 Finnish Civil War broke out, Parikka was head the Worker's Theatre in Enso. Soon he was named as the commander of the local Red Guard. During the Battle of Vyborg, Parikka was one of the Red Guard leaders in charge of the city's defense. He was captured by the Whites and was given the death penalty which was later turned into a life in prison. After the 1921 general pardon, Parikka worked as an artistic director in the Worker's Theatres of Pori and Vyborg and the theaters of Mikkeli and Vaasa. Ã…bo Akademi University ( sv, Ã…bo Akademi , ) is the only exclusively Swedish language multi-faculty university in Finland (or anywhere outside Sweden). It is located mainly in Turku (Ã…bo is the Swedish name of the city) but has also activities in Vaasa. Carl Fredrik Ralph Alexander Enckell (13 May 1913, in Helsinki – 18 May 2001, in Helsinki) was a Finnish diplomat. Enckell was employed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs since 1934. He was Secretary of State in Stockholm from 1944 to 1945, in Paris from 1945 to 1950 and in Moscow from 1950 to 1954, and as Head of the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1955 and 1959.
