The State Of Things (album)
''The State of Things'' is the debut studio album by English alternative rock band Reverend and The Makers. It reached number 5 in the UK Albums Chart, selling just over 25,000 copies in its first week. Critical reception The album received positive reviews, with ''Uncut'' saying "the record is a tribute to McClure's charisma and unswerving self-belief". The first single, " Heavyweight Champion of the World", reached the top ten and was played on BBC Radio 1's ''Live Lounge''. Other songs on the album, notably "He Said He Loved Me" and "The Machine" become fan favourites and were played in their concerts, including the band's three night run at Wembley Stadium supporting Oasis. The album includes seven songs that were previously released as free downloads, in a collection of demos entitled ''Ten Songs'' produced by Alan Smyth. UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. Tim Hampton (musician)
Bromheads (formerly Bromheads Jacket) are a two-piece British garage rock band originating from Sheffield, England. History Bromheads formed in Sheffield in 2005, following the split of a band called Fixated. Although often compared to other Sheffield bands who found fame around the same time, such as Arctic Monkeys and Milburn, the band has a somewhat heavier style. Their style also differs due to singer Tim Hampton's southern England accent (he was raised in Yateley, Hampshire). The band released the singles "Woolley Bridge", "What Ifs + Maybes", "Trip to the Golden Arches"', "Lesley Parlafitt", and "Speaker Box", all released on the Marquis Chacha label. They went on several tours of the UK, and also played across Europe, including in Spain (at the Summercase Festival), Austria, Germany, and the Netherlands. Tom Rowley
Milburn are an indie rock band from Sheffield, England, that consisted of Joe Carnall, Louis Carnall, Tom Rowley, and Joe Green. They announced their split on 28 March 2008, with the band playing one final gig at Sheffield's Carling Academy on 24 May 2008 before reuniting in 2016. History Formation Milburn's formation came after years of friendship through playing football together. Joe Green started playing the drums and Tom and Louis Carnall both learned to play guitar. The three then decided to form a band, in which they would play cover versions of songs by bands they admired. However the band required a singer and bass player, so they encouraged Louis Carnall's younger brother Joe Carnall to join, despite him not knowing how to sing or play bass. Alex Turner (musician)
Alexander David Turner (born 6 January 1986) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is well known as the frontman and principal songwriter of the rock band Arctic Monkeys, with whom he has released seven albums. He has also recorded with his side project involving Miles Kane, as the Last Shadow Puppets and also as a solo artist. When Turner was 17, he and three friends formed Arctic Monkeys in their native Sheffield. Their debut album, ''Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'' (2006), became the fastest-selling debut album in British history and was ranked at No. 30 on ''Rolling Stone'' list of the greatest debut albums of all time, with the single "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" becoming a UK number-one hit. Jon McClure
Jon McClure (born 22 December 1981), known as The Reverend, is an English musician. He is the lead singer and frontman of Reverend and The Makers, and ex-vocalist of 1984 and Judan Suki. He says that the name "Reverend" became his moniker because "I'm a big mouth and always running on at people". Early life McClure was born in the Sheffield suburb Grenoside, and grew up there with his parents and brother Chris. He has known Ed Cosens since childhood and in Notre Dame High School. He went on to become a poet, and began blogging on the internet. Early career Judan Suki McClure's first band was Judan Suki, which featured Ed Cosens and Laura Manuel from The Makers. Alan Smyth is an English record producer from Sheffield, England. He has worked with a number of bands, including Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and The Makers, The Long Blondes, Milburn, Richard Hawley, The Fever Club, The Scaramanga Six, Smokers Die Younger, Monkey Swallows the Universe, The Lodger, Little Man Tate, 65daysofstatic, Little Lost David, Albany, Dead Like Harry, RedFaces, The Silverfish, The Magi, Dead World Leaders, Little Ze, Jack's Attic, Smiling Ivy, Pink Sharabang and The Hurriers. He works from his own studio in the city, 2fly Studios. Oasis (band)
Oasis were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. Originally known as the Rain, the group initially consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals, tambourine), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums). Liam's older brother Noel (lead guitar, vocals) later joined as a fifth member, finalising the group's core lineup. During the course of their existence, they had various lineup changes, with the Gallagher brothers remaining the only staple members. Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album ''Definitely Maybe'' (1994).
