The Start (song)
Malta has entered the Junior Eurovision Song Contest eighteen times since debuting at the first contest in 2003 with Sarah Harrison. Entrants for the Contest were selected by a national selection, organised by the Maltese broadcaster PBS from 2003 to 2010. In 2013, the country opted for an internal selection since the broadcaster decided to return to the contest at a rather late stage (25 September 2013). PBS chose Gaia Cauchi as the 2013 Maltese representative. Malta won the contest twice, in 2013 and 2015, making it one of the most successful countries in the contest. They've also hosted the contest twice, in 2014 and 2016. On 16 July 2011 Malta decided to withdraw from the ninth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the first withdrawal for Malta. Public Broadcasting Services Limited (PBS) is the public broadcaster of Malta. PBS is funded by government grants and the sale of commercial airtime. Its TVM channel is Malta's most watched television channel, and its radio station Magic Malta enjoys huge popularity among local and tourist listeners. History PBS was founded on November 11, 1975 as Xandir Malta and became joint member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) together with the Maltese Broadcasting Authority (MBA). The latter was previously admitted as a full, active member, as Malta Television Service Ltd already has been, in 1970. Since 2003, PBS is the sole Maltese member of EBU. Malta selected their Junior Eurovision entry for 2008 through Junior Eurosong, a national final consisting of 16 songs. The winner was Daniel Testa, with the song "Junior Swing". Before Junior Eurovision Junior Eurosong 08 ''Junior Eurosong 2008'' was the national final format developed by PBS to select the Maltese entry for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008. Competing entries Artists and composers were able to submit their entries between 7 and 8 August 2008. Artists were able to submit up to two songs, however, they could only compete with one song in the national final. PBS received 74 entries, and 36 songs were selected to compete in the semi-finals. Television Malta ( mt, Televixin Malta; TVM) is a Terrestrial television, terrestrial television network in Malta operated by the Public broadcasting, national broadcaster, Public Broadcasting Services. Alongside the main TVM network, PBS operates a sister channel TVMNews+ (formerly TVM 2). History TVM was launched on 29 September 1962 as the first television service in Malta, although television broadcasts from neighbouring Sicily in far-southern Italy could be received in Malta from as early as 1957. In October 2011, PBS announced another overhaul of the TVM brand, to mark 50 years since the establishment of the Malta Television Service in 2012.
