The Spirit Of Christmas (compilation Album)
''The Spirit of Christmas'' were a twenty-five year running series of compilation albums of both traditional and modern Christmas Carols performed by Australian artists and musicians which was released every Christmas between 1993 until its discontinuation in 2018 with proceeds going to The Salvation Army in Australia as part of their "Red Shield Appeal" which supports at-risk children and youth throughout Australia. The albums were sponsored by Myer and produced by Emerald City records, a division of Polydor Records and later produced by Sony BMG. There was a brief intermission because of the Death of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997, and a tribute album featuring British and other international artists, was dedicated to her memory instead, titled " Diana, Princess of Wales: Tribute album". Carl Riseley
Carl Riseley (born 21 December 1982) is an Australian jazz and pop music singer. Early life and career origins Born on the Gold Coast in 1982, Riseley started out playing the cornet, and progressed to the trumpet when he was sixteen. Riseley joined The Royal Australian Navy band in April 2003, as a trumpeter. His singing career began in late 2003 when the Navy Rock Band were deployed on HMAS ''Tobruk'' to tour around Asia & Australia, but did not have a singer. The vacancy was filled by Riseley, who has remained a vocalist. During his time with the Royal Australian Navy, Riseley was deployed in the Solomon Islands, and played for the troops in Iraq on New Year's Eve in 2004 and 2005. Lloyd Rudolph and Susanne Rudolph, known together as the Rudolphs, are American academians who extensively researched on Indian history and democracy. Life They were PhD students at Harvard University and came to India for research on democracy in 1956 under grant by Ford Foundation. They travelled by Land Rover jeep and finally stayed at Jaipur for research on history of Rajasthan, a western state in India. They initially lived at Tilaknagar in Jaipur and later moved to Narayan Niwas. Their children studied in India and can speak Hindi language too. "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is an English Christmas carol. A classic example of a cumulative song, the lyrics detail a series of increasingly numerous gifts given on each of the twelve days of Christmas (the twelve days that make up the Christmas season, starting with Christmas Day). The carol, whose words were first published in England in the late eighteenth century, has a Roud Folk Song Index number of 68. A large number of different melodies have been associated with the song, of which the best known is derived from a 1909 arrangement of a traditional folk melody by English composer Frederic Austin. Lyrics "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is a cumulative song, meaning that each verse is built on top of the previous verses. Paris Wells is an Australian singer-songwriter based in Melbourne. She has released two albums and one EP. Wells has played at festivals such as Falls Festival, Big Day Out, Meredith and Sydney Music Festival. She has supported Justin Timberlake, Rod Stewart, Plan B, Robyn and Jamie Lidell on tour. Biography Wells was a Fairfax employee working in the advertising sales department, when she started performing tiny underground gigs with DJ friends in Melbourne. "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" is a pop song originally sung by Darlene Love and included on the 1963 seasonal compilation album, ''A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector''. Glenn Barrie Shorrock (born 30 June 1944) is an English-born Australian singer-songwriter. He was a founding member of rock bands the Twilights, Axiom, Little River Band and post LRB spin-off trio Birtles Shorrock Goble, as well as being a solo performer. The Twilights had eight consecutive national hit singles including "Needle in a Haystack" and "What's Wrong with the Way I Live". Axiom's top 10 hits were "Arkansas Grass", "Little Ray of Sunshine" and "My Baby's Gone".
