Manowar is an American heavy metal band from Auburn, New York. Formed in 1980, the group is known for lyrics based on fantasy (particularly sword and sorcery) and mythology (particularly Norse mythology and Greco-Roman mythology), as well as numerous songs celebrating the genre and its core audience. The band is also known for a loud and emphatic sound. In an interview for MTV in February 2007, bassist Joey DeMaio lamented that "these days, there's a real lack of big, epic metal that is drenched with crushing guitars and choirs and orchestras... so it's nice to be one of the few bands that's actually doing that". In 1984, the band was included in the Guinness Book of World Records for delivering the loudest performance, a record which they have since broken on two occasions. Power Metal
Power metal is a subgenre of heavy metal combining characteristics of traditional heavy metal with speed metal, often within symphonic context. Generally, power metal is characterized by a faster, lighter, and more uplifting sound, in contrast with the heaviness and dissonance prevalent, for example, in extreme metal. Magic Circle Music
Magic Circle Music was founded by Manowar bassist Joey DeMaio in 2005 named after Richard Wagner's ''Der Ring des Nibelungen''. The purpose of the label is to give the band (Manowar) creative control. Furthermore, it is stated on their website that they (Manowar) saw many other bands "fall to the perils of greed and commercialization in the music industry". To put an end to this practice, DeMaio founded Magic Circle Music through which he felt he could help other developing artists avoid these traps. Apart from releasing band merchandise, the label is also responsible for organizing the Magic Circle Festival, which first took place in 2007 in Bad Arolsen, Germany. Joey DeMaio
Joey DeMaio (born March 6, 1954) is an American musician who is the bass player and main songwriter for the heavy metal band Manowar which he founded in 1980. He is also the founder and CEO of Magic Circle Music. Biography He is a childhood friend of Manowar singer Eric Adams. DeMaio played bass in several school bands. In the 1970s, he toured with the musical ''Godspell'' (premiere in 1971 in New York City), taking musical lessons with the conductor. He worked as a pyro-tech for Black Sabbath during their " Heaven and Hell" tour. In 2006, shortly after creating the record label Magic Circle Music, DeMaio became a manager of the Italian metal band Rhapsody of Fire. He is also a producer for the band HolyHell. ''The Dawn of Battle'' is a three song EP released in 2002 on the Nuclear Blast label by heavy metal band Manowar. This peculiar disc is a CD on one side and a DVD on the other side; the outer (unused) region of each side is painted black like a regular CD or DVD back side. The EP also contains some video material from ''Ringfest'', a promotional trailer for the '' Fire and Blood'' DVD, and a link to a special website. Thunder In The Sky
''Thunder in the Sky'' is an EP released in 2009 by the heavy metal band Manowar, promoting the upcoming full-length album ''The Lord of Steel''. However none of the songs are included on that album, and with the exception of the original version of "Crown and the Ring" on any Manowar album. The EP was sold during the Death to Infidels Tour in all concert locations. It was also available for purchase as a digital album on the Kingdom Of Steel Online Store, the official Manowar online store.
