Unusually, the series aired in a 10-minute time slot, at 7:45pm to 7:55pm ET on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, preceded by the 15-minute '' CBS Television News'', and followed by the 5-minute ''Ruthie on the Telephone ''Ruthie on the Telephone'' is an American Comedy television, comedy television series that was broadcast on the CBS Television network at 7:55pm ET from August 7 to November 5, 1949. ''Ruthie on the Telephone'' is an American Comedy television, comedy television series that was broadcast on the CBS Television network at 7:55pm ET from August 7 to November 5, 1949. The show was written by Goodman Ace and sponsored by Phillip Morris USA, Phillip Morris cigarettes. Each episode was only five minutes long. ''Ruthie on the Telephone'' was preceded by ''CBS Evening News, CBS Television News'' at 7:30pm ET, and by ''The Sonny Kendis Show'' at 7:45pm ET. Synopsis The series features a young lady, Ruthie (Ruth Gilbert (actress), Ruth Gilbert), trying to convince a man, Richard (Phillip Reed) to love her via a telephone call. The series used a Split screen (filmmaking), split-screen technique to depict the telephone conversation. Reception Billboard magazine called the show funny, and complimented the split-screen effect. Earl Wrightson
Earl Wrightson (January 1, 1916 – March 7, 1993) was an American singer and actor best known for musical theatre, concerts and television performances. His regular singing partner was the soprano Lois Hunt. Early life and career Wrightson was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of a Methodist minister. He studied voice at a local conservatory and then moved to New York City in the 1930s to study voice with baritone Robert Weede, who sang with the Metropolitan Opera. Wrightson's first job in New York was as a page for NBC. He married Alta Markey, and the pair had a daughter, Wendy.
