The Sladmore Gallery
The Sladmore Gallery is a London art dealership with two premises, one at 32 Bruton Place off Berkeley Square (held since its foundation in 1965) and the other established at 57 Jermyn Street in 2007. Its speciality is animalier sculptors (with the Bruton Place premises specialising in contemporary sculptors and Jermyn Street specialising in 19th- and early 20th-century sculptors). Its Directors are Edward Horswell, Nona Horswell and Gerry Farrell. The Gallery has posthumously held exhibitions for Auguste Rodin, Aristide Maillol, Edgar Degas, Rembrandt Bugatti, Prince Paul Troubetzkoy and Antoine-Louis Barye. Living exhibitors at the London premises have included Mark Coreth, Geoffrey Dashwood , Sophie Dickens and Nic Fiddian-Green . The Sladmore Gallery also puts on shows and fairs in New York, Maastricht, Paris and London. Bruton Place
Bruton ( ) is a market town, electoral ward, and civil parish in Somerset, England, on the River Brue and the A359 between Frome and Yeovil. It is 7 miles (11 km) south-east of Shepton Mallet, just south of Snakelake Hill and Coombe Hill, 10 miles (16 km) north-west of Gillingham and 12 miles (19 km) south-west of Frome in South Somerset district. The town and ward have a population of 2,907. The parish includes the hamlets of Wyke Champflower and Redlynch. Bruton has a museum of items from the Jurassic era onwards. It includes a table used by the author John Steinbeck on a six-month stay. The Brue is flood-prone – in 1768 it wrecked a stone bridge. Berkeley Square
Berkeley Square is a garden square in the West End of London. It is one of the best known of the many squares in London, located in Mayfair in the City of Westminster. It was laid out in the mid 18th century by the architect William Kent, and originally extended further south. The gardens' very large London Plane trees are among the oldest in central London, planted in 1789. Description Buildings Like most squares in British cities, it is surrounded largely by terraced houses, in this case grand townhouses. Originally these were the London residences of very wealthy families who would spend most of the year at their country house. Only one building, number 48, remains wholly residential. Jermyn Street
Jermyn Street is a one-way street in the St James's area of the City of Westminster in London, England. It is to the south of, parallel, and adjacent to Piccadilly. Jermyn Street is known as a street for gentlemen's-clothing retailers. History In around 1664, the street was created by and named after Henry Jermyn, 1st Earl of St Albans, as part of his development of the St James's area of central London. It was first recorded as "Jarman Streete" in the 1667 rate books of St Martin's, which listed 56 properties on it. In 1675, there were 108 names listed. Auguste Rodin
François Auguste René Rodin (12 November 184017 November 1917) was a French sculptor, generally considered the founder of modern sculpture. He was schooled traditionally and took a craftsman-like approach to his work. Rodin possessed a unique ability to model a complex, turbulent, and deeply pocketed surface in clay. He is known for such sculptures as ''The Thinker'', ''Monument to Balzac'', '' The Kiss'', ''The Burghers of Calais'', and ''The Gates of Hell''. Many of Rodin's most notable sculptures were criticized, as they clashed with predominant figurative sculpture traditions in which works were decorative, formulaic, or highly thematic. Edgar Degas
Edgar Degas (, ; born Hilaire-Germain-Edgar De Gas, ; 19 July 183427 September 1917) was a French Impressionist artist famous for his pastel drawings and oil paintings. Rembrandt Bugatti
Rembrandt Bugatti (16 October 1884 – 8 January 1916) was an Italian sculptor, known primarily for his bronze sculptures of wildlife subjects. During World War I, he volunteered for paramedical work at a military hospital in Antwerp, an experience that triggered in Bugatti the onset of depression, aggravated by financial problems, which eventually caused him to commit suicide on 8 January 1916 in Paris, France when he was 31 years old. Antoine-Louis Barye
Antoine-Louis Barye (24 September 179525 June 1875) was a Romantic French sculptor most famous for his work as an ''animalier'', a sculptor of animals. His son and student was the known sculptor Alfred Barye. Biography Born in Paris, France, Barye began his career as a goldsmith, like many sculptors of the Romantic Period. He first worked under his father Pierre, and around 1810 worked under the sculptor Martin-Guillaume Biennais, who was a goldsmith to Napoleon. Mark Coreth
Mark Coreth (born 1958) is a British artist. Biography Mark Coreth was born in London in 1958 and was immediately dispatched to the family farm in the Kenyan highlands where the Equator ran through the house. Black and white colobus monkeys leapt amongst the branches in the trees behind the house where leopard and cheetah also lived. This idyllic childhood fostered Mark's early and continuing passion for wildlife. After prep school in Kenya, Mark attended Ampleforth and on leaving joined The Blues and Royals, serving with the Regiment as a regular officer. Nic Fiddian-Green
Nic Fiddian-Green (born 1963) is a British sculptor, who specialises is making lifelike models of horses' heads, both smaller and larger than life-sized. Early life Born in Ireland, Fiddian-Green was educated at Eton College. Later, as a foundation-course student at Chelsea College of Arts he was sent on a visit to the British Museum to seek inspiration, and chanced upon a carving of horse's head, the horse of Selene, in the Elgin Marbles room there. He described it as "one of the most beautiful objects I'd ever seen". Shortly afterwards, he began to make works of similar subjects.
