''The Shining'' is an American supernatural horror media franchise that originated from the 1977 novel of the same name by Stephen King. It consists of two films, '' The Shining'' and '' Doctor Sleep'', both of which are film adaptations of novels also written by King, a television miniseries and an upcoming series titled ''Overlook''. Richard Hallorann is a fictional character created by Stephen King from his 1977 novel '' The Shining''.
