The Settlement (1999 Film)
''The Settlement'' is a 1999 film directed by Mark Steilen, starring John C. Reilly, William Fichtner, and Kelly McGillis. The film was screened at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival in April 1999. Plot summary Pat (John C. Reilly) and Jerry (William Fichtner) work on the fringes of the insurance industry in what are called "viatical settlements," which allow terminal patients the option of cashing in their life insurance policies before death for a reduced payment. In the 1980s, with AIDS cutting short what might have been long and healthy lives, business is booming for Pat and Jerry's firm, Viable Settlements, Inc. But a few years later, improved treatments are keeping the terminally ill alive much longer – and that's bad news for Viable Settlements, which is now on the brink of bankruptcy. Mafia Comedy Films
Mafia comedy films are a subgenre hybrid of comedy films and crime/gangster films. Criteria Mafia comedies revolve around organized crime, often specifically the Italian-American Mafia but also other mafias or mafia-like crime groups, and a comedic plot line, usually involving a chase or a complicated situation involving gangsters or organized crime. John Andrew Davis (born July 20, 1954) is an American film producer and founder of Davis Entertainment. Background Davis was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado. He is the son of Barbara Davis (''née'' Levine), a philanthropist, and former 20th Century Fox owner Marvin Davis (1925–2004). His interest in cinema began as a youth when his father purchased the neighborhood film theater, where he sold popcorn and subsequently viewed up to 300 films a year.
