The Secret Courier
''The Secret Courier'' (German: ''Der geheime Kurier'') is a 1928 German silent adventure film directed by Gennaro Righelli and starring Lil Dagover, Ivan Mozzhukhin and Agnes Petersen.Bock & Bergfelder p.77 It is based on the classic novel ''The Red and the Black'' by Stendhal, which Righelli later remade as a sound film ''The Courier of the King in 1947. The film was shot at the Terra Studios in Berlin. The film's art direction was by Otto Erdmann and Hans Sohnle. Cast * Lil Dagover as Mme. Gennaro Righelli
Gennaro Righelli (12 December 1886 – 6 January 1949) was an Italian film director, screenwriter and actor. He directed more than 110 films in Italy and Germany between 1910 and 1947. In 1930, he directed the first Italian sound film, ''The Song of Love''. He was married to the film star Maria Jacobini, whom he frequently cast in his films. Terra Studios
The Terra Studios or Marienfelde Studios were film studios located in the Berlin suburb of Marienfelde. The studios were originally a glasshouse constructed in 1913 by the early company Eiko Film, controlled by the producer Franz Vogel who had previously been using the Sellerstrasse Studios of Rex Film. In the early 1920s Terra Film was founded and took over the studios from the defunct Eiko. It was known as the Terra-Glashaus during these years. Hubert "Hubsi" von Meyerinck (23 August 1896 – 13 May 1971) was a German film actor. He appeared in more than 280 films between 1921 and 1970. Biography Meyerinck was born in Potsdam, Brandenburg, the son of Friedrich von Meyerinck (1858–1928), Hauptmann (Captain) in the Prussian Army. He grew up at his family's estates in the Province of Posen and attended the gymnasium secondary school in Godeberg. Having passed his Abitur exams, he was called up for military service as a cadet in World War I, but soon was dismissed due to a pulmonary disease. In 1917 he gave his debut as a theatre actor at the Schauspielhaus in Berlin and from 1918 to 1920 continued his career at the Hamburg Kammerspiele. Back in Berlin he performed in avant-garde plays by Carl Sternheim, as well as in several revue entertainments and kabarett venues.
