The Secret Code (film)
''The Secret Code'' is a lost 1918 American silent drama film directed by Albert Parker and starring Gloria Swanson. Plot As described in a film magazine, Senator John Calhoun Rand (Sherry), a confirmed old bachelor, marries Sally Carter (Swanson), a young small town woman many years his junior. Washington society is amazed as the Senator had been regarded as the prize catch of the capital. While the society women gossip, secret service agents trace a leak back to the Senator's home. Suspicion points to Mrs. Rand. An investigation proves that she is blameless and that a trusted matron, close to the confidence of the Senator, is an agent of the Kaiser's and has been learning the nation's secrets. Albert Parker (director)
Albert Parker (May 11, 1885 – August 10, 1974) was an American film director, producer, screenwriter and actor. He directed 36 films between 1917 and 1938. In the early 1930s Parker left Hollywood for England where he continued to direct films and also opened an actors' agency office. One of his later clients in the 1960s was actress Helen Mirren. He was born in New York, USA, and died in London, England. Dorothy Wallace
Dorothy Irene Wallace Andreoli is an American number theorist, mathematical biologist, and mathematics educator. She is a professor of mathematics at Dartmouth College. Education Wallace is a graduate of Yale University. She completed her Ph.D. in 1982 at the University of California, San Diego. Her dissertation, ''Selberg's Trace Formula and Units in Higher Degree Number Fields'', concerned number theory and was supervised by Audrey Terras. Lee Phelps (born Napoleon Bonaparte Kukuck; May 15, 1893 – March 19, 1953) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 600 films between 1917 and 1953, mainly in uncredited roles. He also appeared in three films that won the Academy Award for Best Picture (''Grand Hotel'', '' You Can't Take It with You'', and ''Gone with the Wind''). Phelps appeared in the 1952 episode "Outlaw's Paradise" as a judge in the syndicated western television series, ''The Adventures of Kit Carson'', starring Bill Williams in the title role. Joe King ( – ) was an American actor of silent films and talkies as well as a director and writer. Biography King was born in Austin, Texas as Joseph Sayer King and acted in 211 films from 1912 to 1946. He appeared in his later years mainly in minor, uncredited roles. He directed two films, both in 1916 and wrote one script in 1915. Joe King was married to actress Hazel Buckham and he died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California. Catherine Carr (screenwriter)
Catherine Carr (January 1, 1880 – January 18, 1941) was a silent film era screenwriter with at least 28 films to her credit. Biography Catherine, daughter of Absalom and Ida Woodridge, was born in Austin, Texas. She was educated in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband, John Gillis Carr, and began her career as a writer of short stories. Her husband died soon after she gave birth to their two sons. She began her career writing scenarios before rising to the rank of head of the scenario department at Kinetophone. She wrote a number of films for Vitagraph over the course of her years in the industry.
