''The Sea Wolf'' is a lost film, lost 1920 American drama film based upon the The Sea Wolf, 1904 novel by Jack London, directed by George Melford, and starring Noah Beery as the brutal sea captain Wolf Larsen, sometimes referred to as "The Sea Wolf." The supporting cast includes Mabel Julienne Scott, Tom Forman (actor), Tom Forman, Raymond Hatton, and A. Edward Sutherland. The film was The Sea Wolf (1941 film), remade twenty-one years later with Edward G. Robinson in Beery's role. Plot As described in a film magazine, Wolf Larsen (Beery), captain of the sealing steamer ''The Ghost'', receives a severe blow to his head in a fight with his brother Death Larsen (Gordon) on the day he is to sail. George Melford
George H. Melford (born George Henry Knauff, February 19, 1877 – April 25, 1961) was an American stage and film actor and director. Often taken for granted as a director today, the stalwart Melford's name by the 1920s was, like Cecil B. DeMille's, appearing in big bold letters above the title of his films. Early years Born in Rochester, New York, in 1877 (though older sources state 1888), he was the son of German immigrant Henrietta Knauff. Walter Long (actor)
Walter Huntley Long (March 5, 1879 – July 4, 1952) was an American character actor in films from the 1910s. Career Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, Long appeared in nearly 200 films. Long debuted in films in 1909 with Broncho Billy Anderson. He disliked the working conditions for making films, so after that project he returned to acting on stage. He appeared in many D. W. Griffith films, notably ''The Birth of a Nation'' (1915), where he appeared as Gus, an African American, in blackface make-up, and '' Intolerance'' (1916). He also supported Rudolph Valentino in the films '' The Sheik,'' ''Moran of the Lady Letty,'' and '' Blood and Sand.''
