"The Scent of Fear" is television play written by Ted Willis. It was originally written for British anthology series ''Armchair Theatre'', adapted from the story "Stowaway" by Mary Higgins Clark which was reportedly based on a real story that happened in 1949. It was filmed for Australian TV in 1960. Plot A youth in an Iron Curtain country, to escape from police, hides in a plane that is to fly to the UK. An air hostess finds him and he begs her not to turn him in. Ted Willis
Edward Henry Willis, Baron Willis (13 January 1914 – 22 December 1992) was an English playwright, novelist and screenwriter who was also politically active in support of the Labour Party. In 1941 he became the General Secretary of the Young Communist League, the youth branch of the Communist Party of Great Britain. Early life and War service Born in Tottenham, Middlesex, Willis described when he was leaving school at the age of fourteen: "I had a two-second 'career interview' with my Headmaster. He asked me what I wished to do for the future and I told him that I intended to become a writer. His response was a cackle followed by the remark: 'You will never make a writer in a hundred years. You haven't got the imagination for it or the intelligence. Go away and learn a good trade.'" Willis was elected Chairman of the Labour League of Youth as the candidate of the left in 1937. Leonard George Thiele AO (26 September 192214 May 1994), professionally Leonard Teale, was a well-known Australian actor of radio, television and film and radio announcer, presenter and narrator known for his resonant baritone voice. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts. ''Outpost'' is a 1959 Australian television play about Australian soldiers in New Guinea during World War Two. It was written for television by John Cameron. It was one of the most acclaimed early Australian-written TV plays. Plot In September 1943, during World War Two, four Australian soldiers are stranded in an isolated army outpost in New Guinea, waiting for an attack on Buna. The soldiers include Sergeant 'Happy' Adams, Signaler 'Tiger' Lyons and Corporal 'Mitch' Mitchell. Tension happens when McCudden, an arrogant NCO from the airforce, arrives, bringing mail for Happy. McCudden is murdered and the soldiers fear a Japanese attack. Mitch reads in a newspaper that Happy's wife has died in Brisbane. Happy reveals his wife had been having an affair with another man back and when relatives found out and threatened to write to Happy, she committed suicide.
