''The Saint and Her Fool'' (German: ''Die Heilige und ihr Narr'') is a 1935 German drama film directed by Hans Deppe and Paul May and starring Friedrich Ulmer, Lola Chlud and Hansi Knoteck. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Artur Günther and Hans Kuhnert. It was shot at the Babelsberg Studios in Berlin and on location around Langenburg Castle and Oberstdorf in Bavaria. Petra Unkel (3 March 1925 – 2001), also known as Petra Unkel-Klinder, was a Hungarian-born actress of German film, singer, voice actress, radio spokesperson and cabaret artist, who was active in the industry from 1929 until 1958. Life and career Unkel was born in Budapest, in what was then the Kingdom of Hungary, as the daughter of opera tenor Petra Unkel (1880–1942), Unkel started became her career as a child star. It was based on the novel of the same title by Agnes Günther. Two previous film versions had been made a silent film in 1928 and a sound film in 1935. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Isabella Schlichting and Werner Schlichting. It was shot using Agfacolor. It was made with backing from the West German distributor Gloria Film. It was based on a novel by Agnes Günther and premiered at the Capital am Zoo in Berlin.Kreimeier p.115 Art direction was by Andrej Andrejew. For a long time, the movie was considered lost. Although never released in the US, a nitrate copy was discovered in Jack Warner's personal vault. In 2008 it was given to the UCLA in Los Angeles and restored.
