The Rookie Bear
''The Rookie Bear'' is a 1941 MGM cartoon featuring Barney Bear. It is the fourth cartoon in the Barney Bear series. Plot Barney Bear is selected by a drawn Draft Number to enlist in the United States Army. His hibernation is interrupted when a telegram is delivered to him. He misinterprets the words on the telegram, and assumes that it is an actual vacation. Barney enters the base with vacation supplies, but discovers his true purpose when bumping into the heavy artillery. He is refused departure. He enlists through answering "simple" questions, having his photo taken, his physicality examined, his flat feet inflated, his teeth fixed and in the end, when he has passed all his exams, has his butt stamped. He finally gets his uniform, gun and gas mask "which is thoroughly tested". Harman And Ising
Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising were an American animation team known for founding the Warner Bros. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer animation studios. Early history Harman and Ising first worked in animation in the early 1920s at Laugh-O-Gram Studio, Walt Disney's studio in Kansas City. When Disney moved operations to California, Harman, Ising, and fellow animator Carman Maxwell stayed behind to try to start their own studio. Their plans went nowhere, however, and the men soon rejoined Disney to work on his ''Alice Comedies'' and '' Oswald the Lucky Rabbit'' films. It was during this time that Harman and Ising developed a style of cartoon drawing that would later be closely associated with, and credited to, Disney. The Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film is an award given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) as part of the annual Academy Awards, or Oscars, since the 5th Academy Awards (with different names), covering the year 1931–32, to the present. Plot As quail season opens, Barney Bear goes downtown to buy himself a bird dog to hunt quail. Unbeknownst to him, he ends up getting a bird-loving dog. While out hunting, he tells the dog to get him "something to shoot at", so it sets up some cans along the fence for him. ''Wee-Willie Wildcat'' is a 1953 Barney Bear cartoon. It is the 22nd Barney Bear short. It was directed by Dick Lundy using the Tex Avery unit while Avery was gone from the studio. Plot The cartoon begins at Barney's house, who lives next door to William Wildcat. Barney overhears William Wildcat scolding his son, Willie Wildcat. Barney walks next door just in time to find Willie running from his dad. William catches his son, carries him over to a tree stump, and sits down on it while turning Willie over his knee. He pulls down his pants and begins a blistering spanking on his bare bottom. Without realizing that Willie was being punished for being disobedient, Barney takes him to his house and attempts to get along with him through child psychology. ''Goggle Fishing Bear'' is a 1949 MGM cartoon, featuring Barney Bear who attempts to go goggle fishing, with the aid of a sea lion. It is the 16th Barney Bear cartoon and the last Barney Bear cartoon to be supervised by Michael Lah and Preston Blair. Plot The cartoon starts with Barney driving a motor boat at sea, where he attempts to fish. After dropping the anchor, a sea lion assumes that they are playing catch and brings the anchor back. Barney tricks the sea lion into swimming the other way, by pretending to throw the anchor in one direction, then throwing it in another. Only his foot was tied to the rope, which causes Barney to fall in the sea, but the sea lion saves him. A fish is stuck in Barney's suit, in which the sea lion, in an attempt to catch the fish with a trident, pokes Barney's backside. ''Bah Wilderness'' is an MGM cartoon, featuring Barney Bear, who goes camping out in the forest, similar to his first cartoon, ''The Bear That Couldn't Sleep''. It is the ninth Barney Bear cartoon. Plot Barney Bear goes camping in a forest. He finds a small clearing in the woods and begins to set up camp. He starts off by inflating a "Snuggly Wuggly Water Mattress Sleeping Bag", then gets changed to his pajamas, with all the animals watching him. Barney scares them off, puts on his PJs and throws his boot at a noisy wolf, only to have it thrown back at him. Unbeknownst to him, a porcupine had snuck under Barney's covers. He finally goes to bed and runs up a tree when the porcupine spikes his bottom. Barney gets back down and sets up bear traps and mouse traps around his camp, only to fall for them himself when a squirrel wakes him up with the radio.
