''The Right to Love'' is a 1930 American pre-Code drama film which was nominated at the 4th Academy Awards for Best Cinematography (for Charles Lang). It was based on Susan Glaspell's 1928 novel ''Brook Evans''.Encyclopedia of Feminist Literature - Page 230 1438109105 Mary Ellen Snodgrass - 2014 ... settling in Delphi, Greece, Glaspell married the poet Norman Häghem Matson. She produced Brooke Evans (1928), the basis for the film The Right to Love (1930), and chronicled the collapse of her second union in Fugitive's Return (1929). Richard Wallace (director)
Richard Wallace (August 26, 1894 – November 3, 1951) was an American film director. He began working in the editing department at Mack Sennett Studios in the early 1920s. He later moved on to rival Hal Roach Studios where he began directing two-reel films, on some of which he collaborated with Stan Laurel. In 1926, Wallace began directing feature-length films. Several of Wallace's memorable films include three Shirley Temple films, ''A Night to Remember (1943 film), A Night to Remember'' (1943) with Loretta Young, and ''The Little Minister (1934 film), The Little Minister'' (1934) with Katharine Hepburn. He was a founding member of the Directors Guild of America. He died of a heart attack. Irving Pichel
Irving Pichel (June 24, 1891 – July 13, 1954) was an American actor and film director, who won acclaim both as an actor and director in his Hollywood career. Career Pichel was born to a Jewish family in Pittsburgh. He attended Pittsburgh Central High School with George S. Kaufman. The two collaborated on a play, ''The Failure''. Pichel graduated from Harvard University in 1914 and went immediately into the theater. Pichel's first work in musical theatre was as a technical director for the theater of the San Francisco Bohemian Club; he also helped with the annual summer pageant, held at the elite Bohemian Grove, in which up to 300 of its wealthy, influential members from finance and government participate. With this expertise, he was also hired by Wallace Rice as the main narrator in Rice's ambitious pageant play, ''Primavera, the Masque of Santa Barbara'' in 1920.
