The Rescue (painting)
''The Rescue'' (1855) is a painting by John Everett Millais depicting a fireman rescuing three children from a house fire, with their mother receiving them back into her arms. Millais witnessed the death of a fireman in the course of a rescue, and decided to depict the subject. The fire brigade had only recently been transformed from private businesses dedicated to the protection of property to a public institution charged to protect life first. Millais sought to create the correct effects of light and smoke by using a sheet of coloured glass and by burning planks of wood. This emphasis on fleeting effects of colour and light was a new departure in his art. The painting is also notable for its startling transitions of colour, particularly the dramatic effect by which the sleeve of the mother's nightgown changes from slatey blue to pale pink. This led to much critical comment at the time. Exhibition and reception Millais regarded ''The Rescue'' as one of his greatest paintings, ...

It features performances both original and cover by various up and coming artists, as well as established ones, including the final track on the album performed by Sara Routh, the sister of the actor portraying Superman in the film, Brandon Routh. All the songs on the album are based either on the character of Superman himself, or at the basic concept of what a hero really is. None of the songs actually appear in the film, although "The Rescue" was featured in a TV spot for ''Superman Returns'' and the cover track on this album of "Superman" was used to introduce the three main cast members at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards. The Rescue (Adam Cappa Album)
''The Rescue'' is the first studio album by contemporary Christian-rock musician Adam Cappa, released on March 13, 2012 by BEC. Critical reception ''CCM Magazines Matt Conner said "there's a tenderness and authenticity that accompanies Adam Cappa's label debut that prevents the adult contemporary pop sound from becoming too familiar. The sounds on ''The Rescue'' are nothing new but Cappa's heart for his maker and his message are impossible to resist." Christian Music Zine's Joshua Andre wrote the album "it’s hard for new artists to release a debut album with ticks in all the right boxes; however Adam Cappa in my opinion is a lyricist and a singer for the ages. From the strengths of his debut, I am sure he will go far in the Christian music industry, and I’ll be eagerly anticipating his subsequent albums! Adam, your album is a gem. Well done Jeremy and Andy as well. ‘The Rescue’ is one to savour again and again!" The "favourite tracks" according to Andre are the following: ...

The Rescue (Conrad Novel)
''The Rescue, A Romance of the Shallows'' (1920) is one of Joseph Conrad's works contained in what is now sometimes called the Lingard Trilogy, a group of novels based on Conrad's experience as mate on the steamer ''Vidar''. Although it was the last of the three novels to be published, after ''Almayer's Folly'' (1895) and ''An Outcast of the Islands'' (1896), the events related in the novel precede those. The story follows Captain Tom Lingard, the recurring protagonist of The Lingard Trilogy, who was on his way to help a native friend regain his land when he falls in love with a married woman whose yacht he saves from foundering. Literary and historical background Literary In the 1920 Malay Edition of Joseph Conrad's collected works, the publisher Doubleday, Page and Company featured "Author's Notes" at the start of each novel -- in his note for ''The Rescue'', Conrad shows great gratitude for its critical reception and gives background on the project and its 20 year hiatus. ...
