The Reptile House EP
''The Reptile House E.P.'' is the second independent EP by the Sisters of Mercy, released on 12" vinyl in May 1983 on the band's own label, Merciful Release. The EP was never released as a stand-alone CD, but was included on the ''Some Girls Wander by Mistake'' collection. The EP was the band's second release in the US, issued by Brain Eater Records (of Island Park, New York) on 10 July 1983. Brain Eater had previously issued the band's "Alice" EP earlier that year. The Sisters Of Mercy
The Sisters of Mercy is an English rock band, formed in 1980 in Leeds. After achieving early underground fame there, the band had their commercial breakthrough in the mid-1980s and sustained it until the early 1990s, when they stopped releasing new recorded output in protest against their record company WEA. Currently, the band are a touring outfit only. The group has released three original studio albums: '' First and Last and Always'' (1985), '' Floodland'' (1987), and '' Vision Thing'' (1990). Each album was recorded by a different line-up; singer-songwriter Andrew Eldritch and the drum machine called Doktor Avalanche are the only points of continuity throughout. Eldritch and Avalanche were also involved in The Sisterhood, a side-project connected with Eldritch's dispute with former members. Island Park, New York
Island Park is a village located in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 4,655 at the 2010 census. History Island Park was developed by the Island Park-Long Beach Company as a resort community in the 1920s, after previous development plans were cancelled due to World War I. Island Park incorporated itself as a village in 1926. Its first mayor was Charles N. Talbot, who served in that capacity for 12 years. Gary Marx
Gary Marx (born Mark Frederick Pearman) is a British guitarist and musician. He was a founding member of British rock band the Sisters of Mercy and its lead-guitarist and songwriter from 1980 to 1985. He left the band in 1985 to form Ghost Dance, which included ex-Skeletal Family vocalist Anne-Marie Hurst. They released two albums and embarked on a number of extensive tours enjoying relative success. However, record-company politics and inconsistency in personnel left the outfit reeling and they had disbanded by the end of 1989. From 1997 to 2005, he worked as a teacher at Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. He subsequently released material as an independent artist through his own website and set up an archive for his previous band, Ghost Dance. In 2003, Marx released his first solo album, ''Pretty Black Dots''. Ben Gunn (guitarist)
Ben Gunn (born Benjamin Matthews) is a British guitarist who was with The Sisters of Mercy from 1981 to 1983, appearing on several of their early singles. Ben Gunn joined the band after the band released "The Damage Done", after Craig Adams joined, and the band first started using Doktor Avalanche. He played on the singles from "Body Electric" until "Temple of Love", despite some people believing he was there only for live purposes. However, he did not play on The Reptile House EP. Subsequently, the band signed to WEA and Ben Gunn quit in disgust, claiming personal differences between himself and Eldritch (the same reason as was later stated when Gary Marx, Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams left between 1984 and 1985). He claimed that the Sisters started as a joke on rock outfits, and now they had become one. Craig Adams (musician)
Craig David Adams (born 4 April 1962) is an English musician, Bassist, bass guitarist and songwriter. Over his career he has worked with a variety of rock bands, the most notable being the Sisters of Mercy and the Mission (band), the Mission. Biography Craig David Adams was born in Otley, Yorkshire, on 4 April 1962, and was brought up in Leeds. Adams left school to pursue a career in music and initially played keyboards in a local band the Expelairs, who released a handful of singles. He left the five-piece due to musical differences and took up bass. Inspired by Motörhead he began to channel his bass through distortion-effects. After a short conversation in a local bar with Andrew Eldritch he joined The Sisters of Mercy. Here Adams developed his songwriting abilities, contributing mainly to arrangements and using his higher ranged voice for backing vocals which contrasted with Eldritch's melancholic baritone. Some Girls Wander By Mistake
''Some Girls Wander by Mistake'' is a compilation album by English band the Sisters of Mercy, released on 27 April 1992 on their own label Merciful Release, distributed by East West/Warner Music UK. The album collected the complete and unedited studio recording work of the band from 1980 to 1983: their first six singles and EPs, "The Damage Done", "Body Electric", "Anaconda", ''Alice'', '' The Reptile House'', and the 12-inch edition of "Temple of Love". The 2017 release includes two alternate mixes of " Under the Gun": Metropolis mix and Jutland mix, originally released in 1993 on the 12-inch vinyl of "Under the Gun". Background "Temple of Love" is the only song from the 1980–1983 time period that was published with an "extended version". The album does not contain the 7-inch version of the song, which is the same as the extended version but faded out halfway. Gothic Rock
Gothic rock (also called goth rock or simply goth) is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted toward dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and the Cure. The genre itself was defined as a separate movement from post-punk.
