"The Rains of Castamere" is a song appearing in the '' A Song of Ice and Fire'' novels and in the television series adaptation '' Game of Thrones''. The song's lyrics were written by George R. R. Martin in the original novel, and the tune was composed by Ramin Djawadi in 2011, upon request from the series creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. The song appears multiple times throughout the books and show. Content The song recounts the ruthlessness of the character Tywin Lannister in destroying House Reyne ("the Reynes of Castamere") and House Tarbeck, rebellious vassals of House Lannister, some 40 years before the events of the novels. The National (band)
The National is an American rock band of Cincinnati, Ohio natives, formed in Brooklyn, New York City in 1999. Matthew Donald Berninger (, born February 13, 1971) is an American singer-songwriter, primarily known as the frontman and lyricist of indie rock band The National. In 2014, he also formed the EL VY project with Brent Knopf of Ramona Falls and Menomena and released the album ''Return to the Moon'' in November 2015. In May 2020, Berninger shared the title track from his solo debut album, '' Serpentine Prison'', which was released in October 2020. Berninger is known for his classic baritone voice. Asked to avoid flutes and violins, which the producers felt were overused in fantasy themes, Djawadi used the cello as the lead instrument. The piece begins in a minor key, then switches between corresponding major and minor keys repeatedly. Djawadi was shown a preliminary rendering of the title sequence before composing this music to accompany it. "The Lion and the Rose" is the second episode of the fourth season of HBO's fantasy television series '' Game of Thrones'', and the 32nd overall. The episode was written by George R. R. Martin, the author of the '' A Song of Ice and Fire'' novels from which the series is adapted, and directed by Alex Graves. It aired on April 13, 2014. The episode focuses principally on the long-awaited royal wedding between Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell.
