The Question (Emery Album)
''The Question'' is the second album released by Emery. The question the title speaks of involves what is printed on the back of the CD jewel case, "Where were you when I was..." The track titles complete this question (e.g. "Where were you when I was in a lose, lose situation?" or "Where were you when I was studying politics?" or "Where were you when I was so cold I could see my breath?"). On November 21, 2006, Emery re-released The Question, including five acoustic versions of previously recorded songs and two new demo tracks and a DVD. The DVD includes "Emery - A Film", "Live Songs", and "Bonus Footage". Emery (band)
Emery is an American post-hardcore band formed in Rock Hill, South Carolina, in 2001 by Toby Morrell, Devin Shelton, Matt Carter, Josh Head, Joel Green, and Seth Studley. The band relocated to Seattle in order to reach a more music-centered scene. Before signing with Tooth & Nail Records, Emery recorded two EPs, ''The Columbus EEP Thee'' and ''The Weak's End'' demo that they used to attract attention from labels. With Tooth & Nail, they recorded five studio albums and two EPs. '' The Weak's End'', their debut album, was released in 2004, followed by '' The Question'' in 2005 and '' I'm Only a Man'' in 2007. The latter fulfilled Emery's contract with Tooth & Nail. 37th GMA Dove Awards
The 37th Annual GMA Dove Awards, also called the 37th Annual GMA Music Awards, were held on April 5, 2006 recognizing accomplishments of Christian musicians for the year 2005. The show was held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, and was hosted by Rebecca St. James and Kirk Franklin. This was the last year in which the awards were called the "GMA Music Awards", since they will change their names to "GMA Dove Awards". Nominations were announced earlier in 2006 by Kirk Franklin and Rebecca St. James at the Hilton Nashville Downtown in Music City, Tennessee. Chris Tomlin won four awards, including Artist of the Year, while The Afters were awarded New Artist of the Year. Dove Award
A Dove Award is an accolade by the Gospel Music Association (GMA) of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the Christian music industry. The awards are presented annually. Formerly held in Nashville, Tennessee, the Dove Awards took place in Atlanta, Georgia during 2011 and 2012, but has since moved back to Nashville. The ceremonies feature live musical performances and are broadcast on TBN. The awards were established in 1969, and represent a variety of musical styles, including rock, pop, hip hop, country, and urban. History The Dove Awards were originally conceptualized by Gospel singer and songwriter Bill Gaither, at a Gospel Music Association board meeting in 1968. Ryan Clark (musician)
Ryan Clark (born June 23, 1979) is an American graphic designer and musician who also has performed under the stage name Maven. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the Christian metal band Demon Hunter, which he co-founded with his brother, guitarist Don Clark. He was also the frontman for Christian metalcore band Training for Utopia along with being one of the guitarists for Focal Point. He is featured on Zao's ''The Lesser Lights of Heaven'' DVD and Mark Salomon's Podcast, Never Was. Post-hardcore
Post-hardcore is a punk rock music genre that maintains the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk but emphasizes a greater degree of creative expression. It was initially inspired by post-punk and noise rock. Like post-punk, the term has been applied to a broad constellation of groups. ''I'm Only a Man'' is the third album released by the post-hardcore band Emery. Release Emery debuted some tracks from ''I'm Only a Man'' while touring with Underoath in summer 2007, and on July 29, 2007, they released "The Party Song," which was followed by "Rock-N-Rule" on August 16, "After the Devil Beats His Wife" on September 17, and "Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus" on September 24, 2007. Four days later the album was leaked onto the internet in its entirety. Style changes Emery's style shifted even further from their debut than had '' ''The Question''''. The sound of ''I'm Only a Man'' is much more accessible and less aggressive than their past records.
