The Q Continuum
''Star Trek: The Q Continuum'' is an omnibus edition of a three novel miniseries written by Greg Cox, based on the television series '' Star Trek: The Next Generation''. The novels explore the history of the multi-dimensional being Q prior to his introduction in the 1987 episode "Encounter at Farpoint". The Science Fiction Book Club released a similar edition with a different cover in 1998, also titled ''The Q Continuum''. The edition is part of the ''Star Trek: Signature Edition'' (2003–04) series, published by Pocket Books. Included, is an interview of Cox by Kevin Dilmore. Production ''The Q Continuum'' trilogy was conceived by John J. Ordover at Pocket Books. Cox lamented he was uncertain he had "nine-hundred pages" in him when offered the project. Greg Cox (born 1959) is an American writer of science fiction, including works that are media tie-ins. He lives in Oxford, Pennsylvania. He has written numerous ''Star Trek'' novels, including ''The Eugenics Wars'' (Volume One and Two), '' The Q Continuum'', ''Assignment: Eternity'', and ''The Black Shore''. His short fiction can be found in such anthologies as ''Star Trek: Tales of the Dominion War'', ''Star Trek: The Amazing Stories'' and ''Star Trek: Enterprise'' logs. Gary Mitchell (Star Trek)
Gary Mitchell (born 3 May 1965) is a Northern Irish playwright. By the 2000s, he had become "one of the most talked about voices in European theatre ... whose political thrillers have arguably made him Northern Ireland's greatest playwright". From a working-class, loyalist background, Mitchell's first foray into writing was for Radio 4. His first play was produced by Tinderbox but Mitchell's first major theatre success was the production (by Connall Morrison) of his ''In A Little World of Our Own at the Peacock'', a gripping and unflinching portrayal of loyalist culture. "Where No Man Has Gone Before" is the third episode of the first season of the American science fiction television series, ''Star Trek''. Written by Samuel A. Peeples and directed by James Goldstone, it first aired on September 22, 1966. In the episode, after the ''Enterprise'' attempts to cross the energy barrier at the edge of the galaxy, two crew members develop powerful ESP abilities which threaten the safety of the crew. The episode was the second pilot, produced in 1965 after the first pilot, " The Cage", was rejected by NBC. Reportedly, Lucille Ball, who owned Desilu Productions (where the pilot was produced), persuaded NBC management to consider a second pilot, thereby exercising a special option agreement it had with Desilu, because she liked Gene Roddenberry and believed in the project.
