The Psychic Paramount
The Psychic Paramount is an American experimental rock group from New York City that was formed in 2002. History The band was formed by guitarist Drew St. Ivany and bassist Ben Armstrong after the dissolution of noise rock band Laddio Bolocko. Beginning with solo acoustic recordings by St. Ivany, they soon booked a European tour with a very short time to find a drummer. Finding Tatsuya Nakatani, the band had less than a week to practice before setting out for multiple shows in France and Italy. From this tour came the CD ''Live 2002: The Franco-Italian Tour'', featuring recordings at locations throughout the tour, as well as a Super 8 video shot by New York filmmaker Aran Tharp. Nakatani left the band soon thereafter, but a new drummer was found in Sabers drummer Jeff Conaway. Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. All Tomorrow's Parties was an organisation based in London that promoted music festivals, concerts and records throughout the world for over ten years. It was founded by Barry Hogan in 2001 in preparation for the first All Tomorrow's Parties Festival, the line-up of which was picked by Mogwai and took place at Pontins, Camber Sands, England. Named after the song "All Tomorrow's Parties" by the Velvet Underground, the festival exhibited a tendency towards post-rock, indie rock, avant-garde music, and underground hip hop, along with more traditional rock fare presented in smaller venues than typical stadium performances. It was at first a sponsorship-free festival where the organisers and artists stay in the same accommodation as the fans. Battles (band)
Battles is an American experimental rock group, founded in 2002 in New York City by Ian Williams (formerly of Don Caballero and Storm & Stress). The current line-up is a duo, composed of guitarist/keyboardist Williams and drummer John Stanier (formerly of Helmet, Tomahawk and The Mark of Cain). Former members include composer/vocalist Tyondai Braxton and guitarist/bassist Dave Konopka. The band has released four studio albums to date, with the most recent ''Juice B Crypts'' being released in 2019. The band are regarded as one of the most innovative math rock bands of both the 2000s and the 2010s, with critics praising the band's unique sound. Boredoms () (later known as V∞redoms) is a rock band from Osaka, Japan formed in 1986. Lightning Bolt is an American noise rock duo from Providence, Rhode Island, composed of Brian Chippendale on drums and vocals and Brian Gibson on bass guitar. Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O., commonly shortened to Acid Mothers Temple or AMT, is a Japanese psychedelic rock band, the core of which formed in 1995. Aran Tharp
New York filmmaker Aran Tharp was born in 1977, and raised in Edwardsville, IL. He is best known as a "fourth member" of the avant-garde music group The Psychic Paramount. Tharp tours with the band, doing filming, photography, and lighting effects. Tharp finished a short film for the band (''Live in Rome'') that was included on their 2005 album ''Gamelan Into the Mink Supernatural''. Another short film, ''As If By Remote'', was produced for Laddio Bolocko and included in the double CD retrospective ''The Life and Times of Laddio Bolocko''. Noise Rock
Noise rock (sometimes called noise punk) is a noise music, noise-oriented style of experimental rock that spun off from punk rock in the 1980s. Drawing on movements such as minimal music, minimalism, industrial music, and New York hardcore, artists indulge in extreme levels of distortion through the use of electric guitars and, less frequently, electronic instrumentation, either to provide percussive sounds or to contribute to the overall arrangement. Guitar
