The Pretty Mothers-in-law
''El Hamawat El Fatenat'' ( ar, الحماوات الفاتنات, en, The Pretty Mothers-in-law) is a 1954 Egyptian film about a couple who are married, played by Kamal El Shennawy and Kareman, and get into daily arguments and conflicts with each other because they share a roof with their mothers-in-law. Plot Samir is a handsome, young man in his mid-twenties. He works in a construction company and marries Nabila, the woman he has always loved. Only days after their marriage, Nabila’s mother decides to come and live with them in the same house. Samir’s mother feels jealous, and decides she as well should have that “privilege”. Naturally, the two mothers-in-law begin arguing about different things and life at home becomes chaotic. Helmy Rafla
Helmy Rafla (May 15, 1909 – April 22, 1978; ar, حلمي رفلة) was an Egyptian film director, screenwriter, film producer, and make-up artist. He is considered one the most prominent Egyptian filmmakers. Biography Helmy Rafla was born on 15 May 1909 in the Kingdom of Egypt. Rafla did make-up for actress Umm Kulthum in many of her films, which allowed him travel to France to learn the art of make-up. After he returned to Cairo, businessman Talaat Harb asked Rafla to work as an assistant to some foreigners from Europe that were working at Studio Misr, a Cairo-based film studio established by Harb. Rafla continued to work in Studio Misr, until 1936 when the Egyptian Ministry of Education announced they were dispatching Egyptians to France and England in order to learn more about the art of theatre and cinema, including cosmetology. Assia Dagher
Assia Dagher ( ar, آسيا داغر; 6 March 1908 – 12 January 1986) was a Lebanese-Egyptian actress and film producer. Biography Dagher (Almaza Dagher) was born in Tannourine, Lebanon on March 6, 1908. She moved to Cairo with her sister Mary, and niece Mary Queeny in 1919, when she was only 11 years old, after the French occupation of Syria and Lebanon. She stayed with Asaad Dagher, her cousin, who was a writer and journalist at the famous Al-Ahram newspaper. She got the Egyptian nationality in 1933. The first time she acted was in 1926 in a film called ''Laila'', directed by Wadad Orfi. Dagher was the first Lebanese to be on the big screen. Ismail Yasin
Ismail Yassine (also credited as ''Ismail Yasseen''; ar, إسماعيل ياسين ; 15 September 1912 - 24 May 1972) was an Egyptian comedian actor, and is considered as one of the greatest comedians in Egypt. Personal life Ismail Yassine had a difficult childhood in Suez where he was born. His mother died at an early age and his father was jailed thus forcing him to leave school before completing his primary education. He worked as a parking valet to support himself. Career He started his career as a monologue singer and headed for Cairo after Abo El Seoud El Ebiary, the comic screenwriter and his best friend and life partner had discovered him and had helped him to join Badi'a Masabny's troupe. Abdel Salam Al Nabulsy
Abdel Salam Al Nabulsy ( ar, عبد السلام النابلسي) (23 August 1899 – 5 July 1968) was an Egyptian actor of Lebanese-Palestinian origin. Life Nabulsy was born in Tripoli, Lebanon, in 1899, and died 1968 in Beirut. He is known for Egyptian movies in which he co-starred with renowned actors like Ismail Yasin, Abdel Halim Hafez, Faten Hamama and Farid El Atrash Nabulsy studied in Egypt at Al-Azhar University. While there, he developed an interest in acting. He acted on stage for a while and when his family got wind of his new career, they stopped sending him money so that he may focus instead on his studies. Acting afforded Nabulsy a way to earn a living. While he portrayed some evil if not too violent characters, his filmography was generally characterized by comedic roles. He died in Beirut in 1968.
