The Power (XM)
SiriusXM Urban View is an African American talk radio channel on XM Satellite Radio 126 (previously 128). The subjects cover those relevant to the black community such as: politics, economics, or social issues. The channel was originally programmed by Radio One, Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based company specializing in African American and urban radio formats. Radio One originally programmed four other music channels for XM, but XM has since taken control of those channels and removed all commercials. History In August 2007, Radio One overhauled The Power's daytime programming by affiliating it with its Syndication One subsidiary, the company's syndication arm. Joe Madison
Joseph (Joe) Madison (born June 16, 1949), alternatively known as "The Black Eagle" or "Madison", is an American radio talk-show host and activist heard daily on SiriusXM Urban View. Career Radio career Madison began his broadcasting career in 1980 at Detroit's WXYZ-AM radio station. Joining an otherwise white lineup at WWRC-AM in the early '90s, he developed a crossover appeal handling issues that included race but were aimed at the station's multiracial audience. He left in 1998, after the station fired its talent and changed format, to start an online chat show. Karen Hunter (born April 24, 1966) is an American journalist and publisher, talk show host, and the co-author of several books. Hunter is the host of ''The Karen Hunter Show'' on SiriusXM Urban View. Early life and education Born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey, Hunter graduated from Marylawn of the Oranges High School in 1983 and received a B.A. in English literature from Drew University in 1987. Robert "Rob" Redding Jr. is an American podcaster, journalist, author and artist. From 2012 to 2013, he hosted the weekday syndicated ''Redding News Review'' on Sirius XM. Tavis Smiley (; born September 13, 1964) is an American talk show host and author. Smiley was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, and grew up in Bunker Hill, Indiana. After attending Indiana University, he worked during the late 1980s as an aide to Tom Bradley, the mayor of Los Angeles. Smiley became a radio commentator in 1991 and, starting in 1996, he hosted the talk show ''BET Talk'' (later renamed ''BET Tonight'') on Black Entertainment Television (BET). Rex Orville Montague Paul (born January 8, 1945), better known as Kojo Nnamdi ( ), is a Guyanese-born American radio journalist based in Washington, D. C. He is the host of ''The Kojo Nnamdi Show'' and ''The Politics Hour'' on WAMU, and hosted the ''Evening Exchange'' broadcast on WHUT-TV from 1985 to 2011. Early life Nnamdi was born Rex Orville Montague Paul in British Guiana on January 8, 1945. As a high school student, Nnamdi and his friends opposed British colonialism, at odds with their parents. In 1967, a year after Guyana became independent from British rule, Nnamdi moved to Montreal, Canada to attend McGill University after his mother secretly saved her earnings from selling insurance and filled out an application on his behalf. Alfred Charles Sharpton Jr. (born October 3, 1954) is an American civil rights activist, Baptist minister, talk show host and politician. Sharpton is the founder of the National Action Network.
