"The Power" is an episode of the CBS television anthology series '' Studio One'' consisting of an hour-long adaptation of Frank M. Robinson's 1956 science fiction novel of the same name. ''Studio One'' is an American anthology drama television series that was adapted from a radio series. It was created in 1947 by Canadian director Fletcher Markle, who came to CBS from the CBC. It premiered on November 7, 1948 and ended on September 29, 1958, with a total of 467 episodes over the course of 10 seasons. History Radio On April 29, 1947, Fletcher Markle launched the 60-minute CBS Radio series with an adaptation of Malcolm Lowry's ''Under the Volcano''. Broadcast on Tuesdays, opposite ''Fibber McGee and Molly'' and ''The Bob Hope Show'' at 9:30 pm, ET, the radio series continued until July 27, 1948, showcasing such adaptations as '' Dodsworth'', '' Pride and Prejudice'', ''The Red Badge of Courage'', and ''Ah, Wilderness''. The Power (Robinson Novel)
''The Power'' is a 1956 science fiction novel by American writer Frank M. Robinson. It first appeared in the March 1956 edition of ''Blue Book'' magazine and then in a standalone book published by J. B. Lippincott in May that year. Its protagonist, a researcher named Tanner, discovers evidence of a person with psychic abilities among his coworkers. As he tries to uncover the superhuman, his existence is erased and his associates murdered, until he faces a showdown with an apparently invincible opponent. The novel was made into a ''Studio One'' television episode and a 1968 film under the same name. Reception ''Galaxy'' reviewer Floyd C. Gale praised the novel as "a harrowing chase that will have you biting your nails." James Daly (actor)
James Firman Daly (October 23, 1918 – July 3, 1978) was an American theater, film, and television actor, who is perhaps best known for his role as Paul Lochner in the hospital drama series '' Medical Center'', in which he played Chad Everett's superior. Early life Daly was born in Wisconsin Rapids in Wood County in central Wisconsin, to Dorothy Ethelbert (Hogan) Mullen, who later worked for the Central Intelligence Agency, and Percifer Charles Daly, a fuel merchant. During the 1930s, Daly studied drama and acted in shows before he worked for the armed services, and served with the United States Navy as World War II ended. Daly attended the University of Wisconsin, State University of Iowa, and Carroll College before receiving a degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Cornell College later presented him with an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree. Shepperd Strudwick
Shepperd Strudwick (September 22, 1907 – January 15, 1983) was an American actor of film, television, and stage. He was also billed as John Shepperd for some of his films and for his acting on stage in New York. Early years Strudwick was born in Hillsborough, North Carolina. He attended Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Virginia, and the University of North Carolina. At the university, he played football and basketball and ran the mile in track. He gained early acting experience in a summer stock theatre company in Maine. Career He began his film career as the title character in the short film ''Joaquin Murrieta'' (1938), credited as Sheppard Strudwick. He appeared as Yugoslav guerrilla leader Lt. Theodore Meir Bikel ( ; May 2, 1924 – July 21, 2015) was an Austrian-American actor, folk singer, musician, composer, unionist, and political activist.
