Marie Layet
Marie Layet (who often wrote under the pen name Marie Stanley) was an American screenwriter and novelist known for her work during Hollywood's silent era. Biography Marie was born in Mobile, Alabama, to George Layet and his wife Josephine Garner. Her parents were reportedly respected and well-known, but she was orphaned at a young age, and was raised primarily by her grandmother. After her grandmother died, she studied art in New Jersey and Ohio. At the age of 24, she returned to Mobile and opened her own art studio, and she wrote silent films in order to pay her bills after answering an advertisement. Her earliest known effort was on 1913's ''The Clown's Daughter''. She'd go on to write at least a half-dozen more films before marrying prominent lumberman Stanley Sheip in 1917. After her marriage, she turned her attention to the local theater scene, co-founding the Mobile Little Theatre and working on stage plays. He retired from acting just as sound films were beginning. Born in Malta Bend, Missouri, von Meter was signed by the Thanhouser Company based in New Rochelle, New York in 1912, moving to American Film Studios a year or two later. He appeared in the 1923 film ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame'' as Monsignor Neufchatel. He died in Sawtelle, Los Angeles, California in 1956, at age 85. Vivian Rich (May 26, 1893 – November 17, 1957) was an American silent film actress. Career Rich was born in Philadelphia and spent her early years there. Later the family moved to Boston and she completed her education at the Boston Latin High School. From high school she went to the stage and played in musical comedy before joining the American film company. She lived with her mother in Santa Barbara, California. She was signed by the Nestor Film Company in 1912 and starred in almost 200 films. Rich retired from films in 1931. Louise Lester (August 8, 1867 – November 18, 1952) was an American silent film actress. She was the first female star of Western films. Biography Lester was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 8, 1867. In 1884, Lester headed the Louise Lester Opera Company. Lester made her debut in movies as a member of the Flying A Company in Santa Barbara, California after a career on stage. She starred in over 150 films before her retirement in 1935. Lester is most famous for starring as Calamity Anne in a series of films based around the character. She also starred with William Garwood in films such as '' The Oath of Pierre''. The actress' married name was Louise Lester Beal. She was the widow of Frank Beal, a film director. She was also married to actor Jack Richardson. "La Belle Dame sans Merci" ("The Beautiful Lady Without Mercy") is a ballad produced by the England, English poet John Keats in 1819.
