The Pinch Singer
''The Pinch Singer'' is a 1936 '' Our Gang'' short comedy film directed by Fred C. Newmeyer. It was the 142nd ''Our Gang'' short released. Plot The gang's Eagles Club holds auditions for a performer to send to a local amateur radio talent contest, with $50 going to the winner. Despite Alfalfa's repeated attempts to upstage his competition, Darla is chosen to represent the club at the talent contest after her performance of "I'm in the Mood for Love." However, when Darla fails to show up at the radio station, Spanky runs frantically to look for her, while Alfalfa decides to take it upon himself and take Darla's place on the radio program. Alfalfa begins crooning "I'm in the Mood for Love." When the gang hears Alfalfa on the radio, they race to the pay phones at the nearest drugstore and rig the contest, calling in vote after vote for Alfalfa. Charlie Hall (actor)
Charlie Hall (also credited Charley Hall; 19 August 1899 – 7 December 1959) was an English film actor. He is best known as the "Little Nemesis" of Laurel and Hardy. He performed in nearly 50 films with them, making Hall the most frequent supporting actor in the comedy duo's productions. Life and career Hall was born in Ward End, Birmingham, Warwickshire, and learned carpentry as a trade; however, as a teenager, he became a member of the Fred Karno troupe of stage comedians. In his late teens, he visited his sister in New York City and stayed there, finding employment as a stagehand. While working behind the scenes, he met the comic actor Bobby Dunn and they became friends; Dunn convinced Hall to take a stab again at acting, which he did. John Collum
John K. Collum (June 29, 1926 — August 28, 1962) was an American child actor. He appeared in many ''Our Gang'' films of the 1930s as the character Uh-Huh. Career Born in Chicago, Illinois, Collum was the son of Hal Roach's casting director, Joseph Collum. He first appeared in the 1932 short, ''A Lad an' a Lamp''. He was never a regular cast member and portrayed a character named Uh-Huh. Uh-Huh answered most of his questions with a drawn-out "Uh-huuuuuh". After 1933, Collum was used as an extra whenever a large group children was needed. He appeared in many films from 1934 to 1938. His final appearance in the Our Gang series is in the 1938 short ''Three Men in a Tub''. Death Two months past his 36th birthday, Collum died of a heart attack in Los Angeles. Leonard Kibrick (September 6, 1924 – January 4, 1993) was an American child actor. Career Kibrick was most notable for appearing in the '' Our Gang'' short subjects series from 1934 to 1936, usually portraying the villain.
