''The Philosophy of Momus'' is the ninth studio album by Scottish musician Momus. It was released on 1 April 1995 through Nippon Columbia in Japan, and Cherry Red Records in the United Kingdom. Background ''The Philosophy of Momus'' was the first album released after leaving Creation Records, and the second album released on Nippon Columbia, Momus's first major label. It also was one of the first albums released after gaining a cult following in the USA, and mainstream status in Japan. Though Momus claimed in a 1995 interview with ''Kill Pearl Jam Dead'' that much of the album's lyrical content was similar to previous releases, he increasingly became interested in Japanese subjects, reflective of his collaborations with artists like Kahimi Karie and newfound popularity in Japan. Momus (musician)
Nicholas "Nick" Currie (born 11 February 1960), more popularly known under the artist name Momus (after the Momus, Greek god of mockery), is a Scotland, Scottish musician and writer. For over forty years he has been releasing albums on labels in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan. In his lyrics and his other writing he makes use of continental philosophy, and has built up a personal world he says is "dominated by values like diversity, orientalism, and a respect for otherness". Career Musical Nicholas Currie's musical career began in 1981, with his band The Happy Family (band), The Happy Family, featuring ex-members of Josef K (band), Josef K, who made a single and a concept album ''The Man on Your Street: Songs of the Dictator Hall'' on hip UK indie label 4AD. Soft Ballet
Soft Ballet was a Japanese electronic group formed in 1987. The group consisted of three members, Maki Fujii, Ken Morioka, and Ryoichi Endo, though they employed extra support members for live shows. While Soft Ballet weren't necessarily chart toppers, they had a strong cult following and were considered pioneers of modern electronic music in Japan in the 1990s. Denis Blackham
Denis Blackham (born in 1952) is an English music mastering engineer. He began his audio mastering work in 1969 at IBC Studios in London, and later worked for Polygram, RCA, The Master Room, Nimbus Records, Tape One and George Peckham, Porky's. In 1996 he set up his own studio at his home in Surrey, England and when he moved to the Isle of Skye in 2002, he changed the name of his studio to Skye Mastering. In February 2022, Denis and Rose left Skye and relocated to southern Thailand. Denis has mastered recordings by: the Unthanks, Charlie Dore, and many more in his 50 plus years of music mastering. Visual Kei
is a movement among Japanese musicians that is characterized by the use of varying levels of make-up, elaborate hair styles and flamboyant costumes, often, but not always, coupled with androgynous aesthetics, similar to Western glam rock. Some Western sources consider visual kei a music genre, with its sound usually related to glam rock, punk rock and heavy metal. However, visual kei acts play various genres, including those considered by some as unrelated to rock such as electronic, pop, etc. Other sources, including members of the movement themselves, state that it is not a music genre and that the freedom of expression, fashion, and participation in the related subculture is what exemplifies the use of the term.
