The Peace Of Roaring River
''The Peace of Roaring River'' is a lost 1919 American silent Western film produced and distributed by Goldwyn Pictures and starring Pauline Frederick. Hobart Henley and Victor Schertzinger directed the production. Plot As described in a film magazine, Hugo Ennis (Holding), a man's man, refuses to capitulate to the wooing of Sophy McGurn (Barker), the postmistress, which arouses her resentment. She puts an advertisement in a matrimonial newspaper and answers the replies in his name. This causes little Madge Nelson (Frederick) of Omaha, Nebraska, to come to the little town. Her recent illness has left her penniless and friendless. She goes to Ennis' cabin. Ennis returns, thinks he smells a blackmailing scheme, and during the argument that follows is shot by Madge. Madge summons a doctor and saves the life of Ennis. Sophy leads a delegation of the town's women to drive Madge out of the community. Hobart Henley
Hobart Henley (born Hess Manassah Henle; November 23, 1887 – May 22, 1964) was an American silent film actor, Film director, director, screenwriter and producer. He was involved in over 60 films either as an actor or director or both in his twenty-year career, between 1914 and 1934 when he retired from filmmaking. Early life Henley was born Hess Manassah Henle in Louisville, Kentucky, to Samuel Henle, a German immigrant and retailer, and his wife Clementine. His father moved the family to Cincinnati, Ohio, where Henley later attended and graduated from the University of Cincinnati. Career Henley began his career as a stage actor, then moved to acting in silent films. He began dual duties of directing and acting in such films as ''The Gay Old Dog'' for Pathé in 1919. Lydia Yeamans Titus (12 December 1857 – 30 December 1929) was an Australian-born American singer, dancer, comedienne, and actress who had a lengthy career in vaudeville and cinema. She was remembered on stage for her ''Baby-Talk'' act and a popular rendition of the English ballad, ''Sally in Our Alley''. In appreciation, King Edward VII once presented Titus a gold bar pin with the opening notes of ''Sally in Our Alley'' etched in diamonds.
