The Paper Cranes
The Paper Cranes are a Canadian indie pop band from Victoria, British Columbia. The band is composed of the husband and wife duo of Ryan McCullagh (Guitar, Bass, Vocals) and Miranda Roach (Keyboard, Drum Sequencing). Despite several line-up changes during their career the group remains centered on the husband-wife team. The band take their name from the book, ''Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes'' by Eleanor Coerr. History The band was formed in January 2005 by multi-instrumentalist Ryan McCullagh (Vocals, Guitar, Keyboard), James Watson (Drums), John Quissy (Bass), and Mark Vondrasek (Guitar). The group recorded 5 demo songs together including early versions of "I'll Love You Until My Veins Explode", "Out On The Horse Tracks", and, "Deus Ex Machinegun" which circulated on the internet though the recordings were never officially released. The Futureheads
The Futureheads are an English post-punk band from Sunderland, formed in 2000. The band consists of Ross Millard (vocals and guitar), David "Jaff" Craig (vocals and bass guitar) and brothers Barry Hyde (vocals and guitar) and Dave Hyde (drums). Their name comes from the title of The Flaming Lips album ''Hit to Death in the Future Head''. The band's influences include new wave and post-punk bands such as Gang of Four, Devo, XTC, Wire and Fugazi. ''Don't You Forget About Me'' is a 2009 Canadian documentary film about screenwriter, director, and producer John Hughes. Directed by Matt Austin, the film was named after the 1985 song of the same name by Simple Minds, which in turn was the theme song for Hughes' film ''The Breakfast Club''. The film specifically focused on Hughes' fade from prominence in the early 1990s. Background The documentary details the journey of a group of young filmmakers who go in search of the reclusive icon, documenting their search through interviews of the people with whom Hughes had worked and fans of his films. Founded in 1964, the Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM) is a music school in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The Racoons
Racoons are an indie rock band from Victoria, British Columbia. History Racoons were formed in 2008 by founding members Matthew Lyall and Murray Mckenzie. The duo were then joined by Jeff Mitchelmore and James Alexander Bodman, former members of indie pop band The Paper Cranes. The band's debut EP Islomania was released internationally through Maple Music in May 2009. In June 2009 the band embarked on a national tour with The Von Bondies across Canada as well as playing the Rifflandia, Sled Island, Olio, Deraylor and Big Time Out festivals. Over the summer of 2009 the band relocated to Vancouver where they are currently working on their debut full-length.
