The Original Recordings
''The Original Recordings (Singles and Unreleased 1994-1997)'' is a compilation album put together by founding members of The Detroit Cobras, and their fifth release. The album includes the original line up’s earliest recordings, made in 1994, 1995, 1996, out takes from their first LP (1997)and other unreleased tracks. This album was going to be released by Sympathy for the Record Industry as Lost and Found in 2004, but complications arose with the current and former members of the band, so the project was temporarily scrapped. Munster Records in Spain was successful in reaching an agreement with all parties involved and released the LP in three different formats, 12" LP, CD and 7" 45 boxset, each including a detailed history of the early years and formation of the group. The Detroit Cobras
The Detroit Cobras were an American garage rock band from Detroit, Michigan, which was formed around 1994 by vocalist Rachel Nagy and guitarist Mary Ramirez, with a constantly changing assortment of (mostly male) sidemen. Nagy died on January 14, 2022, and no plans to continue without her have been announced. History The Detroit Cobras signed with Sympathy for the Record Industry and released their first album, ''Mink, Rat or Rabbit'', in 1998. After a three-year gap, they released a second album, ''Life, Love and Leaving''. The two albums consisted entirely of cover versions of popular songs from the 1960s. In 2001, they were one of thirteen Michigan-based bands featured on Jack White's ''Sympathetic Sounds of Detroit'' compilation album: the Detroit Cobras' contribution was a cover of Otis Redding's "Shout Bamalama." Baby Washington
Justine Washington (born October 13, 1940), usually credited as Baby Washington, but credited on some early records as Jeanette (Baby) Washington, is an American soul music vocalist, who had 16 ''Billboard'' R&B chart entries in 15 years, most of them during the 1960s. Her biggest hit, "That's How Heartaches Are Made" in 1963, also entered the Top 40 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Life and career Washington was born in Bamberg, South Carolina, United States, and raised in Harlem, New York. In 1956, she joined the vocal group the Hearts, and also recorded for J & S Records as a member of the Jaynetts ("I Wanted To Be Free"/"Where Are You Tonight", J&S 1765/6). William Smith "Bill" Monroe (; September 13, 1911 – September 9, 1996) was an American mandolinist, singer, and songwriter, who created the bluegrass music genre. Because of this, he is often called the " Father of Bluegrass". The genre takes its name from his band, the Blue Grass Boys, who named their group for the bluegrass of Monroe's home state of Kentucky.
