The Old Chisholm Trail (film)
''The Old Chisholm Trail'' is a 1942 American Western film written and directed by Elmer Clifton. The film stars Johnny Mack Brown, Tex Ritter, Fuzzy Knight, Jennifer Holt, Mady Correll and Earle Hodgins. The film was released on December 11, 1942, by Universal Pictures. Plot Ranch owner Belle Turner (Mady Correll) owns one of the few properties along the Old Chisolm Trail that has badly-needed water for cattlemen driving their herds to Abilene, but charges exorbitant fees in return. Not willing to pay Belle five dollars a head of steer for water, Dusty Gardner (Johnny Mack Brown) and his fellow cattlemen detour his herd to Lost River, where he meets Mary Lee (Jennifer Holt), the blond proprietor of the local trading post, and gambler Montana Smith (Tex Ritter). Since the river mysteriously ran dry, Mary has to ship water in to keep her business alive. Elmer Clifton
Elmer Clifton (March 14, 1890 – October 15, 1949) was an American writer, director and actor from the early silent days. A collaborator of D.W. Griffith, he appeared in ''The Birth of a Nation'' (1915) and ''Intolerance'' (1916) before giving up acting in 1917 to concentrate on work behind the camera, with Griffith and Joseph Henabery as his mentors. His first feature-length solo effort as a director was ''The Flame of Youth'' with Jack Mulhall. Clifton honed his talents during the late 1910s, directing vehicles for Mulhall and Herbert Rawlinson at Universal and then for Dorothy Gish for Famous Players-Lasky. Two of his projects with Gish, '' Nobody Home'' and ''Nugget Nell'', featured performances from pre-stardom Rudolph Valentino. Most of this early output has been lost. Edmund Cobb
Edmund Fessenden Cobb (June 23, 1892 – August 15, 1974) was an American actor who appeared in more than 620 films between 1912 and 1966. Biography Cobb was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the son of William Henry Cobb and Eddie (Edmundie) Ross. His maternal grandfather, Edmund G. Ross, was a newspaper editor, a governor of the New Mexico territory, a senator from Kansas, and a leader in the abolitionist movement in the United States. Despite his grandfather's efforts to lead Cobb into a career in politics, an initial effort in acting in a locally produced play turned him in that direction for a career. When he was 18, he worked for the St. Louis Motion Picture Company when it made a film in Albuquerque. Other roles with other companies followed. Jimmy Wakely (February 16, 1914 – September 23, 1982) was an American actor, songwriter, country music vocalist, and one of the last singing cowboys. During the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, he released records, appeared in several B-Western movies with most of the major studios, appeared on radio and television and even had his own series of comic books. His duet singles with Margaret Whiting from 1949 until 1951, produced a string of top seven hits, including 1949's number one hit on the US country chart and pop music chart, "Slippin' Around".
