''The Official Fiction'' was the fourth studio album by Australian band Something for Kate. The album debuted at Number 1 on the ARIA charts and earned platinum status for sales exceeding 70,000 units. It earned the band four ARIA Music Award nominations (Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, Best Group, Best Cover Art) and took out ''Rolling Stones Album of the Year and Single of the Year for "Déjà Vu". The first single from the album, "Déjà Vu", remains a staple of their live sets. It was followed by two other singles, " Song for a Sleepwalker" and "Moving Right Along". Something For Kate
Something for Kate are an Australian alternative rock band, which formed in 1994 with Paul Dempsey on lead vocals and guitar, and Clint Hyndman on drums. They were joined in 1998 by Stephanie Ashworth on bass guitar and backing vocals. The group have released seven studio albums: both '' The Official Fiction'' (2003) and '' Desert Lights'' (2006) topped the ARIA Albums Chart; while ''Beautiful Sharks'' (1999), ''Echolalia'' (2001) and ''Leave Your Soul to Science'' (2012) reached the top 10. Paul Dempsey
Paul Anthony Dempsey (born 25 May 1976) is an Australian musician. He is best known as the lead singer, guitarist and principal lyricist of rock group Something for Kate. Dempsey released his debut solo album, '' Everything Is True'', on 20 August 2009, which peaked at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart. He has also produced and co-written albums for other artists, including Mosman Alder. Dempsey has experienced bouts of clinical depression and periods of writer's block, both of which have been publicised. Australian musicologist Ian McFarlane noted that he "has the capacity to lay his soul bare through his music, there is little pretence or adherence to fashionable measures in the band's delivery". Eric Gorfain
Eric Gorfain is an American violinist and founder of The Section Quartet, a string quartet that plays cover versions of rock songs. He is married to singer-songwriter Sam Phillips, with whom he has toured and recorded. Gorfain studied music at UCLA and won a scholarship to spend a semester at the Sakuyo Junior College of Music in Japan. He worked as a studio violinist and became fluent in Japanese. Beginning in 1991, he toured and recorded with musicians in Japan, then returned to Los Angeles three years later. In 1995, he was hired to work on the reunion tour of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. He followed the tour to Japan where his knowledge of Japanese allowed him to act as translator. The Section Quartet
The Section Quartet is a string quartet founded by Eric Gorfain that performs cover versions of rock songs. History Eric Gorfain founded the quartet after working for the 1996 tour of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. He said the quartet fulfilled his desire to play lead guitar in a rock band. The debut album, ''No Electricity Required'' (2004), contained Gorfain's arrangement of " Dazed and Confused" by Led Zeppelin in addition to cover versions of songs by Coldplay, Kiss, Iron Maiden, and Queens of the Stone Age. The Section Quartet consists of Gorfain on violin, Daphne Chen on violin, Richard Dodd on cello, and Leah Katz on viola. Caitlin Cary (born October 28, 1968) is an alternative country musician and visual artist from Seville, Ohio. Early life Caitlin Cary is the youngest of seven siblings (all older brothers). Her entire family was involved in music to some degree, with her parents' love for singing and her father's interest in building instruments. She had begun to play the violin at age five, but put it aside as a teenager. In addition to the violin, she also played her father's harpsichords, where she wrote some of her own songs.
