James Young (director)
James Young (January 1, 1872 – June 9, 1948) was an American film director, actor, and screenwriter of the silent era. Before films Young had a successful career as a stage actor appearing on Broadway and throughout the country, and was the author of a notable 1905 book on theatrical makeup. Young directed more than 90 films between 1912 and 1928. He also appeared as an actor in 60 films between 1909 and 1917. His first wife was librettist Rida Johnson Young who often composed with Victor Herbert. His second wife was film actress Clara Kimball Young, 18 years his junior, who kept his surname after they divorced. James Young died in New York City on June 9, 1948. Dorothy Greville Cumming (12 April 1894 – 10 December 1983) was an actress of the silent film era. She appeared in 39 American, English, and Australian films between 1915 and 1929, notably appearing as the Virgin Mary in Cecil B. DeMille's 1927 film '' The King of Kings'' and the jealous wife in Lillian Gish's 1928 '' The Wind''. She also appeared in stage productions in those same countries. Childhood and early career Dorothy Greville Cumming was born in Boorowa, New South Wales. Her father, Victor Albert Cumming, born in 1859 in Brisbane, Queensland, was an officer of the Lands Department and also owned Narrangullen sheep station, near Yass. Her mother was the former Sarah T. Fennell. Her paternal grandparents, Frederick Cumming and Agnes Jane Stuart, were born in Scotland and England, respectively. William Clifford (actor)
William Clifford (1878 – December 23, 1941) was an American actor and screenwriter of the silent era. He appeared in 170 films between 1910 and 1929. He also wrote for 30 films between 1913 and 1919. Clifford was born in New Orleans in 1878, and he was educated in voice and music in Toronto, Canada. Early in his career, Clifford acted on stage as a supporting player for 18 years before he formed his own repertory company that toured the United States. He also was the leading man in Earnest Shipman's ''Prisoner of Zenda'' company. He died in Los Angeles, California. Milton Menasco
Milton Menasco (January 22, 1890 – June 7, 1974) was an American painter and art director of silent movies. Born in 1890 in Los Angeles, California, Menasco began his art career in the early days of Hollywood, when his "blood and thunder" posters enticed movie fans into theaters to watch the first silent pictures. He was commissioned to do mural paintings at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco for the World's Fair in 1915. His vivid use of colors and graphics won him recognition in Hollywood, where he worked on 33 films—29 times as art director and twice as set director. In 1925 he was the architecture and set director for the original film based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's ''The Lost World''.
