''The Nixons'' is the third album by the American alternative rock band The Nixons. It was released on June 24, 1997 by MCA Records. Reception Deren Svendsen of AllMusic gave the album two stars. The Nixons are an American alternative rock band formed in 1989. They found commercial success during the mid-1990s, releasing two albums through MCA Records in 1995–1997. The band is best known for the hit singles "Sister" and "Wire" from their album ''Foma''. History Early years and success: 1989–1995 The Nixons were founded in Oklahoma City by singer and guitarist Zac Maloy, guitarist Jesse Davis, bassist Ricky Brooks, and drummer Tye Robison. The group released their debut EP, ''Six'', in 1992 (after a self-titled album, released in 1990) on Dragon Street Records and replaced Robison with John Humphrey, before releasing ''Halo'' in 1994 on Dallas-based Rainmaker Records. Post-grunge
Post-grunge is a derivative of grunge that has a less abrasive or intense tone than traditional grunge. MCA Records
MCA Records was an American record label owned by MCA Inc., which later became part of Universal Music Group. Pre-history MCA Inc., a powerful talent agency and a television production company, entered the recorded music business in 1962 with the purchase of the New York-based US Decca Records (established in 1934), including Coral Records and Brunswick Records. MCA was forced to exit the talent agency business in order to complete the merger. As American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into a top film studio, producing several hits. ''Foma'' is the second album by the American band the Nixons, released in 1995. Its title was inspired by the 1963 novel ''Cat's Cradle'', by Kurt Vonnegut. "Foma" is defined in the album's liner notes as "harmless untruths intended to comfort simple souls; lies." ''Foma'' has sold more than 500,000 copies. The Nixons supported the album by touring with Gravity Kills. "Sister" was a hit on alternative rock radio. Production Recorded in Hollywood, the album was produced by Mark Dodson and the band. Pearl Jam is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990.
