Mary Carr
Mary Carr (née Kenevan; March 14, 1874 – June 24, 1973), was an American film actress and was married to the actor William Carr. She appeared in more than 140 films between 1915 and 1956. She was given some of filmdoms plum mother roles in silent pictures, especially Fox's 1920 ''Over the Hill to the Poorhouse'' which was a great success. She was interred in Calvary Cemetery. Carr bore a strong resemblance to Lucy Beaumont, another famous character actress of the time who specialized in mother roles. As older actresses such as Mary Maurice and Anna Townsend passed on, Carr, still in her forties, seem to inherit all the matriarchal roles in silent films. Mary Carr appeared on the June 9, 1954 episode of the radio quiz program "You Bet Your Life", hosted by comedian Groucho Marx. The Carrs' oldest son, William, died at two years of age. Charles Delaney
Charles Delaney (August 9, 1892 – August 31, 1959) was an American actor. Biography Delaney was born in New York City in 1892. He was originally a motor mechanic and having learned to fly during World War I, he started doing flying vaudeville acts on his return to civilian life before beginning to appear in films. He appeared in more than 90 films between 1913 and 1959. Delaney died in Hollywood in 1959. His final screen appearance was a supporting role in the independently produced low-budget feature '' The Beatniks'' which was released posthumously in 1960. Delaney bore a resemblance to film star Tom Moore. Gloria Grey
Gloria Grey (born Maria Dragomanovich; October 23, 1909 – November 22, 1947) was an American screen and stage actress and director, appearing in mainly dramatic/romantic films during the silent era and after. Career Grey was born Maria Dragomanovich in Portland, Oregon in 1909. She was educated in San Francisco, California. Before beginning her career in film, Grey appeared onstage in vaudeville shows with the Gus Edwards Revue. Her career was spent chiefly during the 1920s in Hollywood, and the 1940s in Argentina. Her first film credit was the 1923 movie ''Bag and Baggage''. She was given praise for her starring role in the 1924 adaptation of Gene Stratton-Porter's '' A Girl of the Limberlost'', which garnered her the honor of being selected as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars in 1924. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience.
