The Next Phase
"The Next Phase" is the 124th episode of the American syndicated science fiction television series '' Star Trek: The Next Generation'', the 24th episode of the fifth season. It aired in syndication on May 18, 1992. Set in the 24th century, the series follows the adventures of the Starfleet crew of the Federation starship Enterprise-D. In this episode, the ''Enterprise'' responds to a distress call from a Romulan science ship. Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge and Ensign Ro Laren are lost in a transporter accident when returning to the ''Enterprise'' with a faulty generator from the Romulan ship. The episode won an Emmy award for ''Outstanding Individual Achievement in Sound Mixing for a Drama Series.'' Jazz Funeral
A jazz funeral is a funeral procession accompanied by a brass band, in the tradition of New Orleans, Louisiana. History The term "jazz funeral" was long in use by observers from elsewhere, but was generally disdained as inappropriate by most New Orleans musicians and practitioners of the tradition. The preferred description was "funeral with music"; while jazz was part of the music played, it was not the primary focus of the ceremony. This reluctance to use the term faded significantly in the final 15 years or so of the 20th century among the younger generation of New Orleans brass band musicians more familiar with the post-Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Soul Rebels Brass Band funk influenced style than the older traditional New Orleans jazz. Shuttlecraft are fictional vehicles in the '' Star Trek'' science fiction franchise built for short trips in space, such as between a planetary surface and orbit. Also referred to as shuttles, their introduction preceded the development of the Space Shuttle. Before '' Star Trek'', science fiction productions from ''Forbidden Planet'' to ''Rocky Jones, Space Ranger'' assumed that a long-range starship would land on planets. Gene Roddenberry's original premise stated that the starship ''Enterprise'' rarely lands. Given the special effects complexity of landing a giant starship each week, "rarely" was quickly changed to "never". Dated March 1964, the premise mentions a "small shuttle rocket".
