''The New Formula'' is a studio album released in 1990 by American R&B group Today. The album was the group's second album, and included the single " I Got the Feeling", along with a remix of "Why You Get Funky on Me", a #2 single which first appeared on the soundtrack for the film ''House Party'', released earlier in the year. The album spent 27 weeks on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and peaked at #19 on November 24, 1990. Today (group)
Today is an American R&B vocal group formed in 1988. The group comprised Frederick Lee "Bubba" Drakeford, Larry "Chief" Singletary, Wesley "Wes" Adams, and Larry "Love" McCain, childhood friends from Englewood, New Jersey. History The group started in 1984 as The Gents and comprised Drakeford, McCain, William McNeir, Ronald Scruggs, and Bernard Belle. During an anti-drug benefit, the group received a meeting with the producer Teddy Riley who renamed the group Today and melded them into the current lineup. Riley helped them receive a deal with MCA Records. As the head of MCA records urban department, Jheryl Busby, moved into Motown, he brought several acts with him, including Today, The Boys and The Good Girls. While touring the country, the groups were successful. Motown promoted Today as the new Four Tops, and The Boys and The Good Girls were promoted as the new Jackson 5 and new Supremes respectively. House Party (film)
''House Party'' is a 1990 American comedy film directed by Reginald Hudlin. It stars Christopher "Kid" Reid and Christopher "Play" Martin of the popular hip hop duo Kid 'n Play, and also stars Paul Anthony, Bow-Legged Lou and B-Fine from Full Force, and Robin Harris (who died of a heart attack nine days after ''House Party'' was released). The film also starred Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, A.J. Johnson, Daryl "Chill" Mitchell and Gene "Groove" Allen (of Groove B. Chill), Kelly Jo Minter, John Witherspoon, with a cameo by funk musician George Clinton. This was one of Harris' final acting roles before his death. Electric Guitar
An electric guitar is a guitar that requires external amplification in order to be heard at typical performance volumes, unlike a standard acoustic guitar (however combinations of the two - a semi-acoustic guitar and an electric acoustic guitar exist). Troy Taylor (record Producer)
Troy Christopher Taylor is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer best known for his production work and mentorship of R&B singer Trey Songz. Taylor is also the CEO of Songbook Entertainment, and has worked extensively with acts including The Isley Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Boyz II Men. Taylor, signed in early 1990 to a solo record deal with Motown, decided to instead explore songwriting and production for other artists, placing records from his unreleased debut album on other projects he was writing for at the time. The album was eventually released in 2021.
