The New Backwards
''The New Backwards'' is an album by Coil released on 18 April 2008. The album is reworked from the '' Backwards'' demo, which was originally created for Nothing Records. Background ''The New Backwards'' was produced by Peter Christopherson and Danny Hyde, and is reworked from the ''Backwards'' demo, which was submitted to Torso Records in 1993 and then further recorded at Trent Reznor's Nothing Studios in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the mid-1990s for a planned release on Reznor's Nothing Records imprint on major label Interscope Records. The record was made in Bangkok in 2007. The album was originally released on 12" vinyl as part of a box set reissue of the album ''The Ape of Naples''. It is currently available on 12" vinyl, compact disc, and downloads in FLAC, aac, and mp3 formats. Coil (band)
Coil were an English experimental music group formed in 1982 in London and dissolved in 2005. Initially envisioned as a solo project by musician John Balance (of the band Psychic TV), Coil evolved into a full-time project with the addition of his partner and Psychic TV bandmate Peter Christopherson, formerly of pioneering industrial music group Throbbing Gristle. Coil's work explored themes related to the occult, sexuality, alchemy, and drugs while influencing genres such as gothic rock, neofolk and dark ambient. AllMusic called the group "one of the most beloved, mythologized groups to emerge from the British post-industrial music, post-industrial scene." Brainwashed is a not-for-profit music website supporting eclectic music. Brainwashed features news, reviews, a podcast, hosts websites for many musical artists and record labels, and has organized two music festivals, Brainwaves. Over fifty people contribute to the archives of Brainwashed. Brainwashed also releases music as Brainwashed Recordings. ''Songs of the Week'' are a collection of songs by Coil distributed via their former primary website Brainwashed.com. Background Starting in October 1998, a "Song of the week" was made available for download. This feature ended sometime in August 1999. The series consisted of 26 tracks in mp3 format, each at a bit rate of 128kbs, except for track 10, which has a bitrate of 160kbs. The compilation is notable for being released with the band's permission and containing many exclusive song versions and tracks. Vinyl exclusive songs from this set were sourced from vinyl. NPO Klassiek is a public-service radio channel in the Netherlands, broadcasting chiefly classical music. It is part of the Netherlands Public Broadcasting system, NPO.
