''The New Andy Griffith Show'' is an American sitcom that was broadcast in the United States on CBS in 1971 on Fridays at 8:30 ET. It debuted on January 8, 1971, and ended on May 21, 1971. History Actor Andy Griffith had left his first sitcom, ''The Andy Griffith Show'', voluntarily after the 1967-68 season while it was still number one in the Nielsen ratings and despite a high-dollar offer from CBS to continue it, in order to pursue his other interests, singing and motion picture acting, and to prevent his being typecast solely as a rural Southern sheriff. When he decided to return to network television two years later, in the fall of 1970, it was in ''Headmaster'', a drama, in which he played the headmaster of an exclusive California private school. Aaron Ruben
Aaron Ruben (March 1, 1914 – January 30, 2010) was an American television director and producer known for ''The Andy Griffith Show'' (1960), '' Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.'' (1964), and '' Sanford and Son'' (1972). Early life Ruben was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Polish Jewish immigrants. He grew up on the West Side of Chicago and attended Lewis Institute but did not graduate. He was involved in theater in Chicago after leaving college. After service in the military he worked for studios and wrote for radio programs including those of Dinah Shore, George Burns and Gracie Allen, and Fred Allen. He co-wrote Milton Berle's 1947-48 radio series with Nat Hiken. Television career Ruben started his TV producing and directing career in 1954 when he directed the TV series '' Caesar's Hour'' (1954). Goober Pyle
Goober Pyle is a fictional character in the American TV sitcom ''The Andy Griffith Show'' and its sequel series ''Mayberry RFD''. He was played by George Lindsey. Lindsey first read for the part of Gomer Pyle, Goober's cousin, which went to actor-singer Jim Nabors. The two actors had similar backgrounds; Lindsey was from Jasper, Alabama, while Nabors was from Sylacauga, Alabama. Paul Hartman
Paul Hartman (March 1, 1904 – October 2, 1973) was an American dancer, stage performer and television actor. Early years Born in San Francisco, California, Hartman was the son of Ferris Hartman, who was sometimes called the "Ziegfeld of the Pacific Coast" and actress Josie Hart. He began performing as a dancer with his sister when he was 4 years old. Hartman attended the University of California. Jesse Donald Knotts (July 21, 1924February 24, 2006) was an American actor and comedian. He is widely known for his role as Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife on ''The Andy Griffith Show'', a 1960s sitcom for which he earned five Emmy Awards. Ruth Thane McDevitt ( Shoecraft; September 13, 1895 – May 27, 1976) was an American film, stage, radio, and television actress. Career The daughter of John Barnabas Shoecraft and Elizabeth Imber Shoecraft, McDevitt was born in Coldwater, Michigan, but grew up in Ohio. After attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she married Patrick McDevitt on December 10, 1928, and decided to devote her time to her marriage. Glen Ash
Glen Ash, also billed as Glenn Ash, was an American actor and comedian. In 1948 Glen Ash was stationed in Tokyo, Japan, with the 16th Communication Squadron (TAF) as a lineman and repairman. He was a corporal in the United States Air Force. He began to play a J-45 Gibson guitar owned by PFC Lester St. Andrie and after a couple of months could play the chords of almost any song he heard. Glen left the Air Force and went to Florida, where he appeared for a few years before leaving for California. He could play the banjo and fiddle along with guitar. In 1965 he made an appearance in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he reunited with St. Andrie, who was a United States Army recruiter.
