The Neighbors’ Window
''The Neighbors' Window'' is a 2019 American short film written and directed by Marshall Curry. It won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 2020. The film was inspired by a true story by Diane Weipert, which she recounted on the podcast ''Love and Radio''. Plot Alli and Jacob are a couple of 30-somethings living in New York City with their three young children. Alli is busy and stressing in nursing the kids, straining her relationship with husband Jacob. Alli's apartment's window faces with an apartment neighbor's window. Alli and Jacob both covertly spy on the couple, bitter about their loss of youth and new responsibilities as parents. One day, Jacob comments that the neighbor man has "shaved his head" and looks hungover. Shortly after, while Jacob and the kids are out, Alli spies across the street again to find the man in hospice; he dies soon after. A Night At The Garden
''A Night at the Garden'' is a 2017 short documentary film about the 1939 Nazi rally that filled Madison Square Garden in New York City. The film was directed by Marshall Curry from footage found by archival producer Rich Remsberg, and was produced by Laura Poitras and Charlotte Cook with Field of Vision. The seven-minute film is composed entirely of archival footage and features a speech from Fritz Julius Kuhn, the leader of the German American Bund, in which anti-Semitic and pro white-Christian sentiments are espoused. The Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film is an award presented at the annual Academy Awards ceremony. The award has existed, under various names, since 1957. From 1936 until 1956 there were two separate awards, "Best Short Subject, One-reel" and "Best Short Subject, Two-reel", referring to the running time of the short: a standard Reel#Motion picture terminology, reel of film is 1000 feet, or about 11 minutes of run time. A third category "Best Short Subject, color" was used only for 1936 and 1937. From the initiation of short subject awards for 1932 until 1935 the terms were "Best Short Subject, comedy" and "Best Short Subject, novelty".
