''The Narwhal'' is a Canadian investigative online magazine that focuses on environmental issues. Emma Gilchrist
Emma Gilchrist is the Canadian co-founder and editor-in-chief of ''The Narwhal''. Gilchirst was the executive director of ''DeSmog'' environmental blog and the past president of ''Press Forward'' association of Canadian independent media outlets. Early life and education Gilchrist is from rural Northern Alberta and has a journalism degree from Mount Royal University who awarded her a ''Horizon Award'' in 2015. Career Gilchrist has worked as a reporter in the United Kingdom and Canada, and has worked at the Calgary Herald and the Calgary Sun. She created a weekly column at the Calgary Herald called ''The Green Guide'' which won a Canadian Newspaper Association Great Ideas Award. Carol Linnitt is a Canadian journalist and the co-founder and managing editor of ''The Narwhal'' environmental magazine. Early life and education Linnit was born in Vancouver. She has a 2021 PhD in from the University of Victoria that focussed on English, and Cultural, Social and Political Thought She won an Emerging Alumni Award from the University in 2022. Prior to her PhD, she obtained a Master's degree in English Literature from York University and a Master's degree in philosophy in the field of phenomenology and environmental ethics. Career Linnitt is a journalist and co-founded ''The Narwhal'' environmental magazine, where she also works as the managing editor. Amber Bracken
Amber Bracken (born 1984) is a Canadian photojournalist known for her reporting on issues affecting Indigenous peoples in North America. She won a World Press Photo first prize in 2017 for Contemporary Issues and in 2022 won the overall World Press Photo of the Year. She was arrested in 2021 while covering the 2020 Canadian pipeline and railway protests. Early life and education Bracken is from Edmonton, Alberta and was born 1984. She obtained a diploma in photojournalism from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 2008. Career Bracken's career started at the Edmonton Sun before she left to work freelance. 2020 Canadian Pipeline And Railway Protests
The 2020 Canadian pipeline and railway protests were a series of civil disobedience protests held in Canada. The main issue behind the protests was the construction of the Coastal GasLink Pipeline (CGL) through of Wetʼsuwetʼen First Nations in Canada, First Nation territory in British Columbia (BC), land that is aboriginal title, unceded. Other concerns of the protesters were indigenous land rights, the actions of police, land conservation, and the environmental impact of energy projects. Starting in 2010, the Wetʼsuwetʼen hereditary chiefs and their supporters made their opposition to the project known and set up a camp directly in the path of the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines, a path similar to that which would later be proposed for the Coastal GasLink Pipeline. Site C Dam
The Site C Dam is an under construction hydroelectric dam on the Peace River, 14 kilometres southwest of Fort St. John in northeastern British Columbia, Canada. It is located approximately 80 kilometres downstream from the W. A. C. Bennett Dam.
