"The Narcissist" is a song by British rock band Blur. It was released on 18 May 2023 as the lead single for the band's ninth studio album ''The Ballad of Darren''. The release of the track marked the first new material by the band since ''The Magic Whip'' in 2015. On Thursday 23rd May 2024, the work was nominated for the Best Song Musically and Lyrically Ivor Novello Award. Reception Alexis Petridis of ''The Guardian'' gave the track 4 out of 5 stars, calling it far less counfounding and straightforward than " Go Out", the lead single of the band's previous record, ''The Magic Whip''. He also called the rhythm track and beat Motorik-esque. Mollie Potter of '' The Edge'' gave it 4.5 stars out of 5, calling the track a "brilliant, crafty acknowledgement of their past triumphs, alongside a recognition of their growth as a band in the decades following their nineties heydey". Blur (band)
Blur are an English rock band formed in London in 1988. The band consists of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree. Their debut album, ''Leisure'' (1991), incorporated the sounds of Madchester and shoegazing. Following a stylistic change influenced by English guitar pop groups such as the Kinks, the Beatles and XTC, Blur released ''Modern Life Is Rubbish'' (1993), ''Parklife'' (1994) and '' The Great Escape'' (1995). Crazy Beat
"Crazy Beat" is a song by English band Blur. It was released as the second single from their seventh album ''Think Tank'' in 2003. "Crazy Beat" has been compared by critics and the band to Blur's 1997 hit "Song 2" in its guitar-driven simplicity. Released in the United States as the first single from the album, it became Blur's first single since "Song 2" to chart on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, reaching No. 22. Graham Coxon, who had left the group prior to the album's release, plays on the single's B-side "The Outsider". Video "Crazy Beat" was supported by two music videos. The official video sees the band performing the song and creating a beast composed of green lightning which attacks people in a pub (Graham Coxon does not appear in this video). "Under the Westway" is a single by English band Blur, released in July 2012. After being played by Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon at Brixton Academy as part of a charity performance for War Child, speculation rose as to "Under the Westway"'s release. On 25 June 2012, it was announced on Blur's Twitter account that the track would be performed live by the band via a live stream and released for download shortly after, with Albarn stating "I wrote these songs for he upcoming Hyde Park showand I’m really excited about getting out there and playing them for people." The single was released as a download-only release on 2 July 2012, accompanied by "The Puritan", and received a physical release in August. Motorik
Motorik is the 4/4 beat often used by, and heavily associated with, krautrock bands. Coined by music journalists, the term is German for "motor skill". The motorik beat was pioneered by Jaki Liebezeit, drummer with German experimental rock band Can. Klaus Dinger of Neu!, another early pioneer of motorik, later called it the " Apache beat". The motorik beat is heard in one section of Kraftwerk's "Autobahn", a song designed to celebrate exactly this experience. It is heard throughout Neu!'s "Hallogallo", from their self-titled album ''Neu!''. Some music critics felt that the motorik style has its roots in the music of Beethoven and Rossini and may be influenced by jazz.
